Customer Review Summary

Breakfast is the main draw at Ernest, and reviewers single out the hash bowls and full English plates most. One praises the Chorizo Hash Bowl, another plans to return for a Hash Bowl, and a vegan full English with homemade hashbrowns is called the best one a diner has had. Close behind are the Local Hero breakfast, the plant lovers breakfast, bacon stotties and sourdough toast. Cocktails, including the Spritz and Negroni menus, plus coffee, green tea and an iced oat latte also earn praise. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and lovely, and families mention a thoughtful kids' menu, an outdoor terrace and a vibe full of character, with vintage Star Wars figures and artwork. The one sharply negative review describes a blackpudding so dry and hard it snapped like a crisp, with bacon and sausage also dry and only warm. The reviewer complained twice, to the waiter and again at the bill, and got the same apology each time. Among the happier reviews, one visit ended with a vegan roll and pastry from the cafe round the corner.

“A great find and it has a wonderful community vibe. Lovely staff, great coffee and food. It is very handy for the Biscuit Factory Gallery, whose café is often very busy in the week. Definitely a place I'll visit again when I'm next in Newcastle.”

“The food is delicious, and the blue mango green tea is excellent. All the staff here are exceptionally warm and kind. Highly recommend dining and relaxing here!”

“One of the best breakfast in Newcastle. I went there with my partner and friends after our civil partnership and we still talk about the food to this day. There are plenty of vegetarian options, the vegan full English is the best I’ve had. Get it with homemade hashbrowns! The staff is always very nice, cocktails are great too and we love to stop at Ernie right around the corner for a pastry, a vegan roll or a sandwich.”

“was taken here by a friend who lives in newcastle as it is her favourite and was definitely not disappointed!! the food was insanely lovely (i had the plant lovers breakfast and a iced oat latte) and my friends also very much enjoyed their food. It’s also decorated so lovely, the playlist is fun and suits the vibe and the service is super friendly and attentive. Also massive credit for such a amazing selection of vegetarian/vegan meals :)”
