Quick info
About Soju & Gogi Korean BBQ House
In Newcastle Upon Tyne, Soju & Gogi Korean BBQ House is a Korean barbecue restaurant at 46 Dean St where meat is cooked at the table on a grill with hot coals, so groups of diners handle the cooking themselves. The barbecue is ordered as a mixed meat platter, and the kitchen also serves cheesy pork ribs and army stew for those who want dishes that arrive ready to eat. Side dishes come to the table with the meal, and kimchi is among them. A dip tray and lettuce accompany the grill, and the staff replenish both on request.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the meat platter for the table grill, praising the quality of the meat and the sides, especially the kimchi and radish pickles. Close behind are the cheesy pork ribs, the army stew and the mixed starters, with one diner also praising the braised pork shank and a spicy chicken feet dish. Staff get repeated credit for explaining the menu and how the barbecue works, and one server even taught chopstick use. The main complaint concerns flavour: a few found the marinades and some cuts under-seasoned for the price, and one said the tables felt cramped. One reviewer felt the Naengmyeon lacked traditional accompaniments like a scissor for the noodles, and another counted only five or six pieces of squid in a stir-fried dish. Still, several mention returning, and one describes staff tracking down a lost bag from their contact details.

“Honest Review!!! Today I visited to Soju & Gogi because I was craving Naengmyeon. I searched through the whole Newcastle and found this place. The restaurant is very cozy and tight. As soon as I got in the restaurant, there is one server girl and one couple guests. I believed it’s only they just opened. I ordered Mul-Naengmyeon and Homemade IceTea. Homemade ice tea is amazing!!!! But for Naengmyeon it wasn’t like I expected. I asked a server girl does it come out Gochujang, Vinegar or mustard, she said no. Also there is no scissor to cut the noodle. I got some side dishes but tiny potion. I thought broth comes with a bit of ice but it’s just a broth. Meat, pear slices, cucumber slices, sesame and kimchi are in the dish. The dish taste is pretty good. I just need a little bit more traditional Korean service and quality. But I really enjoyed it! Till next time.”

“What a great little place, for starters we had the mixed started for 2 (the Korean chicken didn’t last long enough for a photo), for a main we had the steak platter bbq with fried rice and kimchi, easily the best Korean food I have had before. Drink are very well priced and the soju is so easy to drink. Staff here are so kind and really make sure you’re comfortable even going as far as to explain how the bbq and menu works. I can not recommend this place enough, will definitely be coming back.”

“AVOID THIS PLACE. $14 for spicy stir-fried squid and I counted 5-6 pieces of actual squid on the plate. The rest was filler to make the dish look full. This isn’t a meal, it’s a rip-off. Charging this much for that little food is shameless. Do they think customers can’t count? Don’t waste your money here.”
