About Pizzeria Santana
On Jesmond Rd in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Pizzeria Santana serves an Italian menu in a room lined with exposed brick, framed pictures, and mirrors. Beyond the printed menu, a specials board nearly as large as the main list gives diners a rotating range of extra choices alongside the regular dishes. Pizzas come with a flat, thin base, and the kitchen also sends out sea bass and mussels in a garlic white wine and lemon sauce, plus minestrone soup. A 3-course lunchtime special and a roast lunch are offered, and complimentary bread with garlic accompanies the table. The entrance is step-free, making it workable for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. Dogs are welcome in the dining room. The restaurant opens daily, and reservations are recommended. Parking is available near the door for those driving in.

Customer Review Summary
Pizza draws the most consistent praise, described as crispy on the bottom with golden cheese, though one diner noted the base was flat and thin with no rise in the crust despite generous toppings. Close behind, specials stand out, including a Chicken and Tiger Prawn Cajun spiced pasta called excellent, and a sea bass with mussels in garlic white wine and lemon sauce. The complimentary garlic bread gets repeated mention, strong enough that one reviewer joked about smelling of it the next day. Minestrone soup and espresso martinis also earn specific praise. Reviewers repeatedly call the place great value and friendly, with several highlighting a personal touch from the owner, who stops to check how the meal was. The interior is flagged by one reviewer as dated and in need of updating, and another describes an otherwise fine meal spoilt by a child running around unchecked while a waitress shouted across the room. Long-time regulars say they keep returning, with one noting the restaurant was fuller by the time they left than when they arrived.

“My favourite restaurant in Newcastle. Me and my girlfriend love going here and I took my mate once too and he loved it. Unbelievable Italian food for unbelievable value for money. The owner and staff are very kind I feel a great connection to this place.”

“DOG FRIENDLY 🐶 Great value for money place to eat where you probably won’t be disappointed. This place has been a longstanding runner for Italian food in the Jesmond/Sandyford area. The food we had was absolutely fine. Timely served to the table and appearing fresh. We called in for lunchtime pizzas on the 3 course special. Flat thin base pizzas that didn’t have any rise in the crust, but with a nice helping of toppings. Its interior probably hasn’t seen an update in a while. This could be potentially improved to give a more homely Italian feel. Service was unproblematic, but would benefit from some added personality and warmth.”

“Always a pleasure to eat here. We had the gorgeous minestrone soup and roast lunch..just beautiful. The chefs work so hard & the bar staff & waitresses too. The owner/manager takes time to speak to you and asks how everything was. It's always busy, but not noisy if that makes sense. I just love visiting here. You will not be disappointed..10/10 will return again.”
