About Pen Y Bont Farm
Pen Y Bont Farm is a Grade II listed pub on Chester Rd in Mold, set in a building that began as a row of 17th Century cottages and became a single farmhouse in the 19th Century. A refurbishment and extension carried out within the listing left high wooden beams, exposed brickwork and chandeliers inside. The kitchen serves a Sunday roast with a triple meat option of beef, pork and turkey, alongside a steak and Malbec pie and a lamb shank. The pub is open daily. Sections of the restaurant can be partitioned off for private parties, which gives groups such as wedding receptions and funeral gatherings their own space. Dogs are welcome, and the kitchen has a dog menu for them.

Customer Review Summary
Staff draw the most praise, described as friendly and lovely, often greeting guests and showing them straight to a table. Diners single out the steak and Malbec pie, a lamb shank and a steak pie, and one wedding party says every meal for a large table arrived hot and together. Food quality splits sharply, though. Several describe an overcooked tart and vegetables left uneaten, a dry Yorkshire pudding and terrible chips. One reviewer says every dish at their table arrived lukewarm, some needing the microwave, with freezing cold gravy. The triple meat Sunday roast is criticised for thin slices and a small portion that felt overpriced, though its gravy was called rich and tasty. A long gap between starters and mains and limited staff on a busy day also come up, and one reviewer disliked walking through a funeral party to reach the toilets. Dog owners praise the doggy menu, and one party with two wheelchairs says staff accommodated them without a booking.

“Came here for my birthday food and had a really solid experience. The atmosphere was spot-on, the food hit the spot, and the whole visit went smoothly from start to finish. Definitely a great spot to grab a bite and celebrate—will definitely be heading back!”

“Visited for my sister’s wedding reception and had a lovely experience. The table looked beautiful and the service was excellent. All of the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and attentive. The food was lovely, and considering we were a large table, it was great that everyone’s meals came out together and were all hot. We had a really enjoyable time and couldn’t fault the service.”

“Reviews and location seemed positive. The farm showcases traditional pub food and a Jeremy Clarkson Hawkston beer sign indicates you’ve arrived. I was working nearby for the week so took a punt. When entering you’re greeted by professional friendly staff. The bar area is spacious, clean and informative. The service is prompt and for a Sunday it’s reasonably busy. I order the Sunday roast triple meat dish. This comprises of beef, pork and turkey. A Guinness cold is my chosen drink. The cost is £27, I take a table in the beer garden as it’s sunny and less crowded. Approximately fifteen mins later my meal was brought to me. While the presentation was good, the portion I felt was rather small. The roasties were bite size. The meat was thinly sliced. No seasoning was given to me. To be honest it never required any more. I wasn’t asked if everything was ok or if I’d like any sauces? A small pot of gravy came with the meal. The vegetables were crisp, crunchy and the gravy was tasty, rich and delicious. There was a small pot of horse radish but that remained untouched. I’ve had far more wholesome portions elsewhere. I didn’t feel content upon finishing my roast. Also I feel it was overpriced for what you were served. Need to step up a gear.”

“Beautifully kept place, very light, clean, pretty place. Such lovely staff. Greeted by a lovely gent who showed us straight to our table. After 25 mins seated a lovely lady asked to take our drinks order.. came out quick. The wait between starters and main was 40 mins. Which is a long time to wait. The food was not worth waiting for.. at all. My husband did enjoy his steak pie but my food ( tart ) was so over cooked and the veg I had to leave it all. ( it was too busy to complain to take back they were busy with limited staff, I felt bad!) The chips were terrible. With a different chef and more staff, this place could be absolutely fantastic! Great for children and dogs, catered well for them it was nice to see! 🙂”

“Pen Y Bont Farm in Mold is a family-friendly pub that blends traditional charm with contemporary style to wonderful effect. Our pub has a lot of history. The building in which it is set was originally a row of 17th Century cottages. In the 19th Century, these were transformed into one sprawling farmhouse. Now the building has been given a new lease of life. Recently refurbished and extended according to its Grade II listed status, it balances contemporary design with beautiful period-style features like high wooden beams, exposed brickwork, and chandeliers you’d expect to see in a centuries-old banqueting hall. Dine with us and enjoy restaurant-level food in the company of warm and friendly pub people. Farm-assured rotisserie chicken is ...”
