About The Red Lion at Northop
The Red Lion at Northop is a family run pub on High St in Mold, just off the A55. The menu is home cooked and no-frills, with a Sunday roast and a steak and ale pie served with thick cut chips. Desserts are made in-house. The bar has open fires and welcomes dogs, so owners can bring them along. A function room with its own adjoining bar is free for hire and has hosted weddings and birthdays. Large private functions can take over part of the pub while the rest stays open to other customers.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what draws most reviewers, with diners calling the roast superb and praising home cooked food and generous portions. Close behind is the steak and ale pie with thick cut chips, singled out as a highlight. Several describe friendly, attentive staff, and one praises the events manager and the function room and adjoining bar used for a wedding. Others mention a birthday meal, a hen night, and the outside tables on a sunny evening, and one notes the pub was dog friendly. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who had to ask twice for menus and felt ignored by a manager watching sport on a phone at the front bar, which they found unwelcoming despite otherwise faultless staff and food. Another would welcome a little more menu choice. Reviewers also note that a large private function in part of the pub made no difference to the service, and one returned for the Sunday roast after an enjoyable Friday evening meal.

“A fantastic birthday meal, menu took me back a bit to no frills food we all loved. Nothing no frills about this food however, it was wholesome, it was quality it was tasty. Warren was excellent from start to finish, other staff were attentive but not overbearing. Ambience excellent - found a gem.”

“My wife and I both really enjoyed our respective meals tonight. The presentation and service was faultless. The food, very well prepared and the quality was obvious once tasted. If I'm being very critical I'd say a little more menu choice would be welcome, but what we did try was excellent. Would we go there again and recommend to others? A wholehearted, yes.”

“We had our wedding here a few weeks ago. The venue is fantastic , we had the use of the function room and adjoining bar which was just perfect. So many people commented on how pretty it was. The staff are all fantastic but a special shout needs to go to Warren the Events Manager , he was so helpful on the run up , the set up in the morning and kept everything running seamlessly during the event. Would definitely recommend for birthdays , weddings etc”

“Had a fantastic meal and a really lovely experience the other week. A huge thank you to the whole restaurant team for making us feel so welcome, and especially to Ellen, who was absolutely lovely, attentive and made sure everything was perfect throughout our visit. She was so friendly and genuinely went above and beyond with nothing being too much hassle and the desserts she made was absolutely gorgeous! Thank you again, Ellen. We’ll definitely be back soon!!”
