Quick info
About Beef Smokehouse
Beef Smokehouse is a Texas-style barbecue restaurant at 285 Barlow Moor Rd in Manchester, and all of its meat is halal. The menu centres on brisket with a peppercorn crust, smoked in the American style, alongside a 450g beef rib with BBQ glaze. Chicken, turkey and sausage round out the smokehouse range, and the food is made in-house and never frozen. Tallow House fries come skin-on and cooked in beef dripping, so the chips follow the same beef-led approach as the rest of the menu. Seating is walk-in only, with no pre-booking. The room fills quickly after opening, and a wait to get in is common. Guests order and pay by scanning the QR code at the table or at the desk.

Customer Review Summary
The caveats are mostly about price and ordering. Some find it expensive, and one felt a plastic tray of cold meat, chips and a sausage was poor value for a large bill. Ordering by table QR code frustrated a couple of reviewers, and one described a server getting parts of the order wrong three times. Several note a full, loud room soon after opening, and a few say the brisket sandwich was dry and wanted more sauce or something acidic. One reviewer said the 450g beef ribs left leftovers.

“Decided to try this place after hearing it does American style brisket in a smoker. The venue was nice, the owner seemed very pleasant but disappointed to learn its all Halal meat as i dont eat Halal and there was no information saying as such. The service was very casual, our drink order came as cans of pop, no glass. We placed an order of approx £60! and what arrived was disappointing. Eating out should be an experience. A couple of plastic tray with a little bit of meat, chips and a sausage on it with some pots of sauce. Looking at what we got for £60 was ridiculous. The meat had gone cold by the time it came to us, probably because it was served on a plastic tray but the food itself was tasty and you can see the owner takes pride in his cooking. Overall definitely not worth the price or presentation and more suited to a takeaway.”

“I recently visited Beef Smokehouse and overall had a good experience. There was a bit of a wait to get in, and it got very loud once the restaurant filled up, but that's to be expected from a popular spot. I ordered the brisket, chicken, and the pulled brisket sandwich. The brisket was nice and tender with a good smoky flavour, but for me, the chicken was the standout. It was incredibly juicy, packed with flavour, and even better value for money. The pulled brisket sandwich was enjoyable, but I felt it was missing a little complexity. A few pickled garnishes or something with a bit of acidity would have helped balance the richness and taken the sandwich to the next level. To finish, I tried the banana pudding. It was okay, but it didn't really stand out compared to the rest of the meal. Overall, the food quality is good and I'd recommend trying Beef Smokehouse, especially for the chicken. However, the prices are on the higher side, which makes it difficult to justify as a regular dining option. It's more of an occasional treat rather than somewhere I'd visit frequently.”

“Halal. Great food, attentive staff, and a pleasant atmosphere. Walk-ins only, as you cannot pre-book. Once seated, you scan a table QR code to view the menu and pay. Note: the service can be prone to mistakes, so keep track of your order to ensure everyone receives the correct items and that everything actually arrives. Our server got parts of the order wrong three times. The host was on hand to help, though there was a miscommunication at one point. I enquired whether the 450g beef ribs included the bone to gauge the portion size, but he did not understand and kept repeating that the weight varies depending on the bone. Consequently, I ordered two. One would have been plenty, as a portion of each was left over. If ordering brisket as a main, one portion of ribs could feed 3-4 people. If ribs are the main, it would feed 1-2. The food was excellent: - 100g Brisket: Great peppercorn crust, perfectly cooked, soft, and melt-in-the-mouth tender. It was so well-seasoned it did not require sauce. Highly recommend. - 450g Beef Ribs with BBQ Glaze: Rich, sweet, and highly flavourful. The fat made it moist, palatable, and very moreish. However, an extra side or more pickled vegetables would help cut through the sweetness. - Tallow House Fries: Curved, skin-on fries. Soft and well-cooked. - Banana Pudding: Light and creamy with a soft biscuit base and a strong, prominent banana flavour throughout. Despite the service hiccups, the quality of the food was top class. Would return.”

“Great place for meat lovers and those who wanna enjoy very well marinated and slow cooked steak. The beef ribs and briskets are the topnotch, served at a very fair price. Don't miss their mac&cheese and banana pudding. It's definitely worth trying foods here and having a great experience.”

“My first choice, Malaysian restaurant Sambal fell foul of the hot weather and didn’t open. Fortunately, Beef Smokehouse provided great Texas BBQ just down the road. Melt in mouth brisket, spicy chicken, exemplary Texas hot link sausage and mac n cheese with good hit of cheese”
