About Don Giovanni - Italian Restaurant Manchester
Don Giovanni is an independently owned Italian restaurant at 1 Peter House in Manchester, open since 1984 and the oldest independent Italian in the city. That history gives the kitchen a long track record with the local dining public. Halal food is served, including a halal lasagne, and the menu covers several pasta dishes along with steak. Caprese Salad and tiramisu are also listed. Meals are served at the table, with a designated waiter looking after each party. Birthday groups get a complimentary cake, and the team sings at the table.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the servers, described as welcoming, friendly and attentive, from one who eased a first outing with a newborn to another who took Polaroids of a table of friends. Dishes named in praise include the carbonara, the lasagne, the ragu pasta, a perfectly cooked steak and a tiramisu one diner called the best they had had, with a couple noting the halal options. The room is called relaxed, welcoming and fancy yet homely. Food draws the sharper criticism. One diner found dishes bland and served at room temperature, another cites bland ravioli and chewy chicken, and a Caprese salad arrived as a single tomato and a ball of mozzarella that the reviewer felt was poor value. A party with a nut allergy found no allergen menu and ordered a dish they could not have. Another reviewer describes a long wait for starters with only one waiter able to serve the table. One birthday table was given a complimentary cake and sung to.

“Really disappointed in our experience here. First of all, we had a nut allergy sufferer in our party, and there was no allergen menu, leading to us ordering something we couldn't actually have. Our server did communicate this clearly and came back to let us know, but still disappointing. We went for a Caprese Salad which eas £15 and, as you can see in the image, we got one tomato and a ball of mozzarella... for £15!!! The rest of the food was slightly better value but, to be honest also a bit disappointing. Bland ravioli and chewy chicken for us tonight. My family and I used to absolutely love going to Don Giovanni but it is very different now and to be honest, wouldn't recommend...”

“I had a great time at Giovanni's. The food was great the ambience was relaxed yet up-class. I'm usually not a fan of Italian food but the meal was excellent for myself and my wife, especially since our waiter recommended a good dish. The service was truly stand-out with our server Omar who made us feel so at ease considering it was our first time out at a restaurant with our newborn as new parents. He really put the anxiety I had (of my son crying and people starring at the "couple with the baby" at a nice restaurant). He was personable and even shared about his journey being a first time dad that was slightly more experienced with the newborn stages. He really made an already fine establishment and elevated experience with his attention to detail, professionalism and warmth. He deserves some much needed recognition or at least a raise. He also helped us celebrate my wife's birthday with a complementary cake as well as singing happ birthday at the table. I don't usually write reviews but when I get really quality service and a great experience I believe in giving the honour where it's rightfully due. I will definitely come back again.”

“Visited Giovanni in Manchester recently. The restaurant itself is lovely, with a great atmosphere and a welcoming feel. The staff were attentive, friendly and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the setting. The dishes were quite bland, lacked flavour and were served only at room temperature rather than being properly hot, which was disappointing. Overall, it’s a nice place to enjoy the ambience and service, but the food quality needs improvement to match the rest of the experience.”

“Came here for the first time with some friends and had a wonderful time. The steak I had was cooked perfectly and I was very pleased with the service. Ciara was our waitress for the evening and she was ever so welcoming. She took multiple Polaroids of us and was very knowledgeable regarding the menu and the atmosphere. I would definitely return to the establishment and hope to see Ciara again.”
