About Cibo Manchester

Cibo Manchester is an Italian restaurant in the city centre, at 43 Spring Gardens at the top of King Street, set in a Grade II listed building. The dining room is furnished with marble tables, velvet and chandeliers. The kitchen makes handmade pasta and Neapolitan-style pizza, and the menu also takes in fresh seafood and Mediterranean dishes built on seasonal ingredients, with tiramisu for dessert. The restaurant keeps a large wine collection, and live music is part of the programme. A private dining room serves groups marking birthdays or holding meetings, semi-private areas suit corporate events and festive meals, and exclusive hire is available for larger gatherings. For birthday celebrations, the team brings out a cake or a treat, or adds a candle.

Customer Review Summary

Birthday celebrations are the most common reason reviewers come to Cibo, and several describe staff making them special: a tiramisu brought out with a candle, a cake for two friends, a treat sent out after the kitchen had closed, and a private dining event with a customised menu. Close behind are the pasta and pizza, which some call delicious, along with the summer drink specials and a large wine selection. The decor gets repeated praise, as does the live music for one diner. Opinions on the food split, though. One reviewer found the pasta and pizza underwhelming, another found dishes bland and rich, and a third said a dish was too salty. Service is mostly warm and attentive, but one reviewer felt it was closer to a regular restaurant than fine dining. Another said a three-course birthday dinner for five was rushed out the door within an hour. A third said the bill and extra orders were slow on a busy Valentine's Day, though the food itself arrived quickly.

“A great experience in a beautiful restaurant, greeted at door then taken immediately to our pre booked table to sit and admire the decor while a keen server attended to all our needs, immediately. Was served by a waitress called Valentina, who was marvelous. She also arranged for a surprise happy birthday and graduation for 2 guests within group. A welcome surprise for those involved. Would return, although a higher end of service does require a bit more expense. Thumbs up to all involved”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an amazing experience at Cibo Manchester. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic. One of the highlights of the evening was the live music, which made our visit feel even more special. A lovely waitress from Brazil looked after our table, and she was absolutely wonderful. She was friendly, warm, and took the time to chat with us about where we were from and how we were enjoying the food. It felt very personal and welcoming. What impressed me the most was the service. The staff regularly checked on us to make sure everything was perfect and genuinely cared about our experience. Everyone was attentive, professional, and made us feel very well looked after. I honestly couldn’t find a single fault. Great food, beautiful atmosphere, outstanding service, and live music – everything was perfect. I would highly recommend Cibo Manchester and will definitely be coming back!”

“Lovely restaurant and really nice inside, but it was a bit too quiet and felt like everyone could hear your conversation. Some background music would definitely help the atmosphere. The food was okay, though I found some dishes a little bland and quite rich. A nice touch was the staff bringing out a cake for mine and my friend’s birthday. The servers were friendly and happy to answer any questions about the menu”

“I recently visited Cibo Manchester, and overall I'd rate my experience 5/10 The ambience was lovely, and the interior was stunning. The waitress who served us was attentive and did a great job throughout the evening. I was also impressed by how professional and welcoming the bouncer at the entrance was. The menu offered a good variety of options, and I have to mention how clean and well-maintained the toilets were. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the rest of the experience. We ordered both the pasta and the pizza, and neither really stood out to us. They weren't terrible, but they were quite underwhelming and didn't meet our expectations, especially considering the overall setting of the restaurant. I had sparkling water with my meal. Because the food is the main reason you visit a restaurant, I'd give Cibo Manchester an overall rating of 5/10. Great ambience and service, but the food just wasn't memorable for me. Also picture taking is allowed”

“Completely rushed! Ruined my daughter's 16th birthday dinner. We booked a table for 5 people at 5:00 PM to celebrate my daughter’s 16th birthday, expecting an upscale, premium dining experience. Instead, we were treated like a fast-food turnaround. We ordered a full three courses—starters, mains, and desserts—and spent over £200, yet the entire experience lasted exactly one hour. Our waiter (an elderly gentleman) constantly rushed us through the meal from start to finish, leaving us out the door by 6:00 PM. There was absolutely no hospitality, no time to breathe between courses, and zero care given to the fact that we were celebrating a milestone birthday. Incredibly disappointed with the service. If you are looking to enjoy a special occasion and have a relaxed, upscale meal, do not book here. They just want your money and your table cleared as fast as possible.”
