About The Salutation Pub
Among the Manchester Metropolitan University buildings on Higher Chatham St, The Salutation Pub is a Manchester pub set in an 1840s building. The university owns it and the student union runs it. It is the tap for Bollington Brewery, with five cask ales on handpump, and ciders are served alongside them. The food is modern bar eats, and chilli coated peanuts are sold as a snack. Quiz nights and student events are held sometimes.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the range of well kept cask ales on handpump, with Bollington beers named repeatedly and one noting five cask beers and a cider on at once. A dark stout and a veggie burger get a mention too, along with chilli coated peanuts and cheap student beer. The old building is called lovely and beautiful, though several lament how it is dwarfed by surrounding university construction. Staff are described as friendly, a dog owner reports a warm welcome, and reviewers mention a covered outdoor seating area, a smoking area and occasional quiz nights and student events. The main complaint is availability: one visitor on a Saturday afternoon found no hot food and no wi-fi and left without buying anything, and another arrived to find it closed. One reviewer also found the quiet lunchtime atmosphere underwhelming, and another said the men's toilet felt dated and needed a deep clean. Even so, a Tuesday afternoon visitor noted steady trade, with reviewers closing on the pub as one of Manchester's remaining old traditional pubs.

“An excellent find on a return visit 50 years after starting university studies in the nearby department of planning and architecture. A wonderful example of retaining a lovely old pub building despite surrounding it with modern developments. The university and students have fought to save the pub and it fully deserves the consistent level of trade witnessed on a Tuesday afternoon. A goid range of well kept ales on handpump.”

“We had a drink in this historic pub, it was nice in sitting area, but my partner complained late that male toilet needs deep cleaning as it was dirty like in 1970’s.”
