About Gorilla
Gorilla is a bar and music venue in Manchester, set under the railway arches at 54-56 Whitworth St, with a restaurant and a gig space in the same building. Bands play in a mainly standing gig room with an animated backdrop, and a raised area at the back has seating for 12. A gin parlour and a separate bar area serve cocktails, with music playing in the bar. The food menu centres on grill dishes, including a beef sandwich with chips and a steak fritta, and a blueberry banana smoothie sits alongside them for non-alcoholic orders. Guests who go in for a gig cannot re-enter once they are inside.

Customer Review Summary
Food draws the most praise, led by a beef sandwich with chips that one diner called incredible, made with top quality ingredients. Close behind are a prawn starter, a steak fritta that was a little chewy but still enjoyable, and a fresh blueberry banana smoothie. Several call the food good and reasonably priced, often at quiet weekday lunches, and staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming. The live music side is the other draw. Reviewers describe a small, well lit gig room with an animated backdrop, a raised seating area at the back for 12 that suited one group who needed to sit, and bar vibes after concerts they called immaculate. Complaints are fewer but specific. One group found the accessible toilet broken. Another reviewer called the no re-entry policy a disgrace, saying the gig prices for drinks seemed ludicrous and they were not allowed to step out for a cheaper drink first.

“The staff all lovely & courteous but the no re-entry policy a disgrace. A friend & I went to watch Ben Kweller Tuesday the 9th & when we realised how ludicrous the prices were we wanted to leave & go for a cheap drink first but were not allowed. The only reason for that is to keep a capt audience & fleece punters with ridiculous booze prices. Really terrible. But staff & service great. Policy awful. X”

“Came here on a Sunday and had the beef sandwich with chips. It was incredible! And I am not easily pleased. All top quality ingredients”

“Saw Art school Girlfriend supported by Kloyd there; both excellent as was the venue, stayed for a few cocktails as Soccer Mommy was being played in the bar area, absolutely my kind of place. Unfortunately can't report on any food yet, will need another visit!”

“Didn't have the food, as I went for a concert, so can't rightly review that, but the vibes in the bar afterwards and in the concert part were immaculate.”

“Enjoyed another visit to Gorilla in Manchester. From memory, it's the 2nd time I've been. Excellent experience at Gorilla on both occasions. Staff were nice and great food served at reasonable prices, too, in my opinion, given the location. Quite quiet when I was there, but that's to be expected during a weekday early lunchtime, and just meant the background music provided some good atmosphere, so no problems at all. Highly recommend a visit!”
