Quick info
About Sandbar Manchester
Sandbar Manchester is a gastropub at 120 Grosvenor St in Manchester, where the seating is made from former bus seats. Woodfired pizza is the main food, with a wide range of toppings, and garlic and parmesan chips come alongside. The bar stocks more than 200 whiskeys, plus cask ales and a keg and craft beer selection, many from local breweries. At least one gluten free beer is on tap, and vegan bar snacks are on the food list. Besides the main room, a second, quieter room and several alcoves offer other places to sit. Food is ordered from the kitchen and drinks from the bar separately. Reservation requests are handled by email.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come for the craft beer, singling out a wide cask and keg range with local breweries, several Weissbiers, and a gluten free beer usually on tap, with whiskies close behind. The pizzas are the other regular draw, described as fresh with a good variety of toppings, and the garlic and parmesan chips and fries get repeated praise. Several mention vegan and non-alcoholic options. Some find the atmosphere friendly and laid back, with a quieter second room and music that never stops conversation, and a few note the dog-friendly setup and the former bus seats. One reviewer finds some beers pricey, though they accept it for craft quality. The most serious complaint is a one-star account of rude, condescending bar staff, even toward a customer on crutches and a cane, while the kitchen staff were described as kinder. That reviewer advises ordering from the kitchen and the bar separately and calling ahead for a gluten-free pizza.

“I liked this place. Unpretentious. Bit of a spit-and-sawdust aesthetic. The food is just pizza, but pretty good and a wide range of them. Good selection of beers (and whiskies) and wine is available. Dog-friendly, and I found it human-friendly, too.”

“The positives are that you can take in a dog, it’s close to campus in Oxford Street, and the space is chill. But bar staff are truly among the rudest people I’ve ever met, even on very calm days. I’ve entered on crutches and a cane, and the rudeness and condescension I experienced, including when I was there with my parents from out of town, was out of this world. I really look forward to not going back unless I have to with a group. The kitchen staff is kinder, thankfully! Make sure to order separately from the kitchen and the bar, or you’ll be treated to some terrific derision from the baristas! And if you want a gluten-free pizza, do call in advance and reserve/order!”

“Brilliant cosy place with a wide range of good pints as well as a brilliant selection of whiskeys and other spirits. The woodfired pizzas are brilliant and a perfect size also the seating layout is brilliant with former bus seats being used a fantastic idea. I Would highly recommend a visit if you’re in Manchester.”

“Pizza was fresh and delicious, with a nice variety of toppings! The bar had some really nice drinks, staff were friendly, and the overall atmosphere was great. It was also very reasonably priced! I don't know how they got the garlic and parmesan chips so perfect but omg, to die for!”
