About Joshua Brooks
Joshua Brooks is a pub, restaurant and nightclub in Manchester, combining all three in one venue at 106 Princess St. Upstairs, a food menu is served alongside drinks, with booths, pool and a large projector showing football, rugby, boxing and golf. Happy hour brings cocktails, and a student special pairs a poboy with a drink. Downstairs, a small, dark basement club runs a DJ-led dancefloor on a Void sound system, with underground DJs and well-known names headlining events. Bar service can be slow when the venue is busy. A mid level between the floors gives access to fresh air.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the DJs and the underground club downstairs, praising well-known names, Stanton Warriors and Goldie among them, and an intimate, lively room with a sound system several call top notch. Upstairs, close behind, is a friendly bar with a good choice of drinks, happy hour cocktails, and a large projector for football and golf. One reviewer enjoyed a bartender who played Manchester bands. Food splits opinion: one calls it exquisite, another found a student deal poboy light on shrimp and the fries too salty to eat. The basement draws repeated complaints about heat with no fans or ventilation, over-crowding that left no room to dance, and slow bar service. One reviewer who travelled a long way was angry that the bar closed around 2:30 and the music was switched off at about 3am, an hour before the advertised 4am finish, leaving them to rebook a pricier taxi.

“A wonderful, intimate club downstairs. A lively, friendly bar upstairs. The sound system is top notch and they attract the finest DJ’s across the globe. It actually reminds me of how clubbing used to be many moons ago. If you like to bop, go to JB!”

“Wouldn’t recommend going for a party. The Party was supposed to be to 4am which is already too early but I was like ok so I booked a taxi for 4am. At 3am the music stopped playing and the staff was like it’s finished. I travelled 60 miles for this party and booked taxi for 4am. Had to cancel the original taxi and pay for a new one more expensive. That’s not how it supposed to be ! I’ve been on parties all around the uk and Europe but never experienced this! You need to understand that not everyone is local and that It costs so much more money to get back! Absolutely disappointed! Would not recommend! If you reading this and expect parties to finish when they say they will you shouldnt go to this club especially if you travel from afar. About 2:30 I’m going to get a drink and they say to me the bar is closed. I thought weird but ok it is what it is. And then the music was turned off at about 3am! Management decided there wasn’t enough people for the liking. A complete joke. Yeah it wasn’t packed but it wasn’t empty either. People were still enjoying the music. Avoid.”

“Great atmosphere. Excellent choice of drinks. Happy hour cocktails for £5, with an excellent range was great too! Excellent food choice to go with drinks. Large projector with events to watch, golf etc. Staff were a bit un-enthusiatic and scruffy. Otherwise, good and friendly service 👍”

“I always love coming back to Joshua Brooks ❤️😊 It’s one of those places that never disappoints. The atmosphere is amazing every time, and the DJs are honestly some of the best — they always bring incredible energy and keep the vibe going all night. Definitely a spot I keep returning to! ❤️☺️🤭”

“Seems like a great place, staff inside and out were good. I attended an event in the basement, really awesome atmosphere for DJs. Sound quality was decent, not amazing, volume was good. However, it was far too hot down there, 0 fans in use and no ventilation - if you don't like hot venues then wouldn't recommend. Also the event I went to was absolutely over capacity, couldn't dance properly at all. If you enjoy intimate dancefloors then it'll be great, if you're quite claustrophobic, this won't be for you. Didn't spend much time upstairs, but it did seem like a lovely spot.”

“Joshua Brooks is a pub, restaurant, and nightclub with a reputation built over decades. Upstairs, enjoy food, craft beer, and cocktails while watching live football, rugby, and boxing on our big screen. Whether you’re catching the match, relaxing in the booths, or soaking up the sun on our terrace, JB’s is built for good times. Play pool all day or grab a table with friends. Downstairs, the club speaks for itself—featuring a world-class Void sound system and some of the best underground DJs around. Shortlisted for Best Venue UK/Europe at the BBC Radio Dance Awards, we’re proud of the legacy and energy we’ve built. Joshua Brooks is a Manchester institution. Come see why.”
