About Terrace NQ
Terrace NQ is a warehouse-style bar in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, on Thomas St between two pedestrianised roads, with three leafy rooftop terraces and several other indoor and outdoor spaces. Inside, brick walls, leather benches and reclaimed wood sit under subdued lighting, with table candles and jazz and lofi music playing. The bar pours a changing selection of beers and ales on tap, alongside craft beers and bottles, and cocktails are on the menu. Entry involves a queue at the door and an ID check.

Customer Review Summary
The big roof terrace and the wide, ever-changing range of ales and craft beers on tap draw the most praise, in a vast bar with several indoor and outdoor areas. Cocktails and bottles also get a mention, and those who ate called the food decent. Several like the brick walls, leather benches, reclaimed wood and table candles, with jazz funk or lofi jazz playing, and describe a chill, lively spot for afternoon drinks. Service is the recurring complaint. One reviewer was refused a hot drink without ID, while a younger sister was served cider unchecked. Another had a beer run out, a hazy order poured clear, then an Amstel, and a can listed at 7.1% that turned out to be 4.1%. Upstairs diners describe tables left uncleared, repeated requests for cutlery and napkins, food in takeaway containers and a bar door slammed beside their table. Two of them moved downstairs, where the bar staff were friendly and the evening improved.

“We didn't eat here, great atmosphere it is a lively area of the city centre. Beer and white wine were decent. Perfect spot for a couple of afternoon drinks and a catch up”

“Visited Terrace NQ with three friends and sat on the terrace at table 48, right next to the bar. The atmosphere was great, and the cocktails were enjoyable. The food was decent too – I’d give it 4/5. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. When we arrived, our table was still covered with glasses from the previous guests. After waiting and seeing nobody deal with it, I ended up clearing them myself and placing them by the bar. Rather than receiving a simple thank you, I was met with a hostile look from a member of staff with black-and-yellow braided hair, as if I had done something wrong. Our food arrived in takeaway containers, which felt strange for customers dining in. Whether that’s a cost-saving measure or not, it certainly doesn’t create the best dining experience. The bigger issue was the service. No cutlery, napkins, or sauces were provided. I had to go and ask for them myself. The same staff member initially ignored me and only responded after I called over twice. Despite clearly seeing there were four of us, she handed me cutlery and napkins for only one person. The napkins themselves were dirty, and when I mentioned it, her response was, “That’s the best I can bring you.” Not “let me get you a better one,” not “you can find more over there” – just “that’s the best I can do.” To make matters worse, our table was next to the bar door, and staff repeatedly slammed it throughout the evening. Every few minutes we were startled by another bang. If the door doesn’t close properly, fix it. If it does, close it with some consideration for the guests sitting beside it. Eventually we became so frustrated that we asked to move and sat downstairs outside instead. To be fair, the experience immediately improved. The two girls working behind the downstairs bar were friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. They acknowledged us, had positive energy, and treated us the way hospitality staff should treat guests. That’s actually what makes the contrast even more surprising. The problem clearly wasn’t the venue itself, and not every member of staff was an issue. Some of the team were excellent. Unfortunately, our experience upstairs was so poor that it completely overshadowed the rest of the evening. I’ve worked in hospitality for years and currently help manage one of the busiest café groups in Manchester with multiple locations. Service standards matter, and unfortunately this was some of the worst customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. Great location. Decent food. Excellent staff downstairs. Terrible service upstairs. I won’t be returning, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it.”

“Lovely terrace, good cocktails and decent food. Unfortunately, the service upstairs was some of the poorest I’ve experienced in Manchester. Our table wasn’t cleared when we arrived, we had to ask repeatedly for cutlery and napkins, and the staff attitude left a lot to be desired. The constant slamming of the door beside our table didn’t help either. The only reason I’m not leaving an even lower rating is because we later moved downstairs, where the two bar staff were fantastic – friendly, attentive and genuinely welcoming. The contrast between the upstairs and downstairs service was night and day. A venue with a lot of potential, but consistency in customer service is desperately needed.”

“So wanted to enjoy this place but had some major problems with the servers. First beer I ordered was out, second beer I ordered was a hazy, it was poured a clear beer and when I asked she misheard my request and poured me an Amstel. Gave up, disliked the Amstel, went back for a second beer a few sips in. Trying for a can from Track, they were out of that too. Settled for a different can from Track listed 7.1% alcohol, on receiving i see its 4.1%. It tastes fine but disappointed in everything from the staff.”
