Quick info
About English Lounge NQ
English Lounge NQ is a pub in Manchester, on High St at numbers 64-66, opposite the food court of the Arndale shopping centre near Shudehill. Football plays across a large number of screens, with several different games showing at once, and a pool table and darts give groups something to play between matches. Karaoke with flashing lights and live music sessions add to the entertainment. The bar pours Doom Bar on cask alongside other cask and cider choices. The pub food menu covers fish n chips, pie n mash and burgers. Seating spreads across multiple rooms, including two upstairs, and purple lighting with hanging lights runs through the interior.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the welcoming staff and the local-pub feel, with several saying it feels like their own local despite being in a city. Entertainment comes close behind: karaoke on a Thursday, live music on a Saturday afternoon, darts, and many screens showing different football games, with one diner enjoying a small-plates lunch while watching. Drinkers mention an excellent pint of Landlord and Old Mout Cider. The picture is not uniformly positive. One group said the bartender switched off the Manchester City v Arsenal match and told them everyone had to buy a drink to watch it, and they left for a Wetherspoons. Another reviewer found service very slow, with two items missing from their order, while one called the pub tired, scruffy and badly laid out, with staff often away from the bar. A pool player found no chalk for the cues. One regular, finding a menu change, had a staff member ask the chef to make the philly steak sub roll even though it was off the menu.

“Walked in there expecting to watch the city vs arsenal match bartender after seeing us walk in turned the TV off. After 2/5buying a drink before the game started and others willing to buy when the game started. However we were told we all had to buy a drink to watch the match I have never heard this before in a pub not even in Monaco where it is more high end and I can say for certain that this pub dose not compare. Especially in customer service. Any law on this being illegal as surely at a pub you cannot force a drink alcoholic or not and purposefully turn off football for them after buying a coke and a £6.10 bottle of cider. Absolutely not happy and left to go to a spoons”

“Tuesday night and probably not the best time. Decided to play a game of pool. No chalk for the cues.”

“My daughter and myself were going to shudehill for our bus and were passing this place. It was a Thursday and there was flashy lights and karaoke. We obviously called in. It was great and thoroughly entertaining. We didn't want to leave, but had to get our bus. We will deffo call in again. Oh such fun 😁”

“This place needs a major refurbishment...from the moment you walk in it's tired, scruffy, badly laid out and , for some reason, has such a bad stale smell. Staff are often not even behind the bar to serve. . The management/owners should be ashamed....”

“This was a fantastic pub for drinking, featuring purple lighting across the interior! Lights even hang down for this and counter is well presented, darts games were a blast. Enjoyed a pint of Old Mout Cider at spacious seating, tables are also kept clean!”
