About The Bay Horse Tavern
The Bay Horse Tavern is a pub in Manchester's Northern Quarter, on Thomas St at numbers 35-37, that takes a modern approach to the Victorian pub format. A basement dining area downstairs sits separate from the main room upstairs. The food menu includes fish and chips, and a Sunday lunch menu offers roast and fish options. Bottomless brunch is served with hash browns. At the bar, gins and craft beers make up the drinks range. The pub is open daily. Payment is by card only.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch draws the most mentions, with the fish and the roast singled out by a table of six, one of whom passed along praise for the gravy. Fish and chips, a fish finger sandwich and fish cakes also earn mentions, and a Bloody Mary and a bottomless brunch with bottomless hash browns come up as well. Service is described as friendly and attentive, including on a busy Saturday, though one reviewer calls a waiter rude, with a curt "yeah?" for an order and no thanks on leaving. Food complaints are specific. Another Sunday diner found the beef and lamb roasts chewy, the potatoes oily or rock hard and the Yorkshire puddings bland. One lunch had a braised short rib with a lot of fat, and a sausage and mash arrived as the table finished eating, with chips offered as an apology and only two sausages on the plate. Several call the menu limited and the cost high for it, while the half price food offer in January is welcomed. A few mention sitting in the basement dining room, which one calls cosy, and outdoor seating suits a sunny happy hour.

“We had a great happy hour at this pub and really enjoyed the experience. Thanks to the warm, sunny weather, we were able to sit outside, which made the atmosphere even more pleasant. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit, and the service was quick and efficient. A great place to relax with a drink after a long day. I’d happily recommend it if you’re looking for a casual pub with a nice outdoor seating area.”

“Came here on a Wednesday afternoon for their 50% off food offer. Nice atmosphere and tasty food. Really liked the fish cakes. BTW, they are card💳only !”

“We recently visited The Bay Horse Tavern for their bottomless brunch, and it was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. A massive shout-out to Nathan and the short-haired lady whose name I unfortunately can’t remember – the service from both of them was unbelievable. Friendly, attentive, and always making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. They genuinely made the experience and are a real credit to the pub. I honestly can’t compliment your staff enough. The drinks kept flowing, the food was great, and the atmosphere in the Northern Quarter was exactly what you want for a weekend brunch. The only tiny complaint I have is that bottomless hash browns should be delivered the moment you sit down! If there was a way to have an endless supply of crispy hash browns from arrival to departure, I’d be there every weekend. All jokes aside, it was a brilliant experience, and we’ll definitely be back. Thanks again to Nathan and his colleague for making it such a memorable afternoon.”

“Came on a seriously busy Saturday and the staff were super attentive and brought out our sandwiches quickly. Fish finger sandwich was really good. Easy and quick meal in the centre of Northern Quarter.”

“The fish and chips and chicken Kiev were great but the service was awful. The short male waiter was rude, had a bad attitude and no customer service skills. It really ruined the experience. He approached the table and said "yeah?" when asking for our order, no hello, no thank you when we left. Then had the audacity to ask us for a £4.40 service charge, laughable.”
