About Melville

Melville is a pub on Melville Rd in Stretford, Manchester, with a dedicated darts area that gives players 2 boards, a raised oche and an electronic scoreboard. DJ and karaoke nights, including an R&B night, add to the entertainment alongside the darts. A double-sided bar serves a dining side on one half and a more traditional pub side on the other, and booths and separate areas offer seating set apart from the main floor. For football, the pub has multiple TV screens showing Sky Sports and TNT Sports, plus a separate room for watching matches. The menu includes Hunters chicken and fish and chips. Orders go through the bar rather than to the table, and menus are picked up from the tables. Two function rooms can be hired for events, with a choice of bespoke buffets for groups.

Customer Review Summary

The complaints are about food and service. One diner found a jerk chicken caesar salad short on taste, with five small cubes of chicken, no croutons and a tasteless dressing, and missed a pie on the menu. Another found few gluten free options, and one was told on arrival that it would be very busy later and felt unwelcome. A further reviewer noted there is no lounge service, so food and menus must be asked for at the tables.

“Menu online was nit the menu presented on my first visit to this pub today. I was very disappointed not to see at least one pie offered on the menu. This has to be a crime for pub grub not to have a pie with shortcrust pastry on menu. I settled for a jerk chicken caesar salad. I'm afraid it was lacking in taste but abundant in lettuce. However very little else, 5 small 1cm cubes of jerk chicken so small I couldn't taste anything to comment on the taste. There weren't any croutons and I managed to find 2 small anchovies hiding under the sea of lettuce. There wasn't any cheese, bacon or eggs on offer and the dressing had no taste. This was not value for the £13 I paid neither in taste or quantity. Now the good bits pub was well presented staff were pleasant, decor and atmosphere lovely, pleasant odour and lovely garden area with seating outside. I would return but would only eat if the menu and portion sizes changed. There's nothing worse than feeling hungry after having a main meal in a pub. Should never happen as this doesn't encourage you to stay and have a drink.”

“Nice old school boozer. Crystal and diamond lager. Nice dedicated area for darts. 2 boards, great on match night for a bit of practice whilst waiting. Raised oche, unicorn eclipse boards. Lighting could be a bit better as one board used one of those arch lights. Leaves the bottom slightly dull. Electronic scoreboard. Decent pub for darts 👌 🎯🎯🎯🎯”

“There aren't many gluten free options at this bar so if you any dietary restrictions I would avoid for food. We also didn't feel very welcome when we arrived (got told it would be VERY busy later - and we're surprised that they didn't want to make us feel welcome as first time visitors. However there were quite a few screens around so I imagine it would be quite a good pub to watch the football in.”

Good to know

“The Melville is a large, welcoming pub in Stretford serving great beers. With a well-kept, bright beer garden towards the rear, inside you’ll find a double-sided bar with a spacious dining area on one side and more traditional pub-feel on the other. The Melville likes to entertain – there’s regular entertainment and live events on throughout the week. The pub also shows all of the live sport action with a large choice of TVs all equipped with Sky Sports and TNT Sports. You can also find a dart board on the smaller left hand side of the pub. There are also two function rooms for hire available for all events with a choice of bespoke buffets. Get in touch for more details.”
