Customer Review Summary

Pizzas are the most frequently named draw, described as good and better than some diners have had in a while, though one reviewer calls the cooking more generic Mediterranean than real Italian. Close behind are the calamari, the chicken skewer and a generous chicken salad, with hummus in a huge portion and feta parcels also praised. Outdoor seating in the sun near the Heath and friendly staff come up repeatedly. The complaints centre on service and value. One reviewer found the staff brusque and impolite and says mains take a long time even when pizza is quick. Another waited a long time to order and to pay, and the manager explained that the request for the bill was missed. A mixed grill drew a harsh complaint for tough chicken, lamb that was not juicy and a small portion for the money, and the price of pints was called steep. A few note the inside is cramped. One reviewer was struck that tap water arrived unprompted with ice and the lemon came as two freshly cut wedges.

“Nice little restaurant, more generic Mediterranean than actual Italian. The pizzas were good, not the “real Italian” but not bad at all. My chicken casserole was also good, could have done with a little more flavor. Very friendly staff, a good meal overall.”

“We chose Bistro Laz as we were visiting Highgate cemetery for the day. The food was really good as was the service. The outside space is perfect for a warm sunny day. I would definitely recommend it”

“Came for a quick bite as we live locally. Service is brusque. Pizza comes reasonably quickly after ordering but any other mains take quite a long time. Staff are rather impolite, it’s not the place to go if you value nice service. Best for a quick takeaway pizza to eat elsewhere.”

“It's so easy to feel ripped off when eating out in London and my daughter and I visited this place with no expectations. It really surprised us though - the food was fresh, generous and well cooked (we had chicken skewer and a pizza), the service attentive and friendly, and there was no pressure to up-sell us on anything - rather than going through the rigamarole of being offered still or sparkling and having to ask for tap water, it arrived without prompting, with ice in the glasses. When choosing a wine, we were not steered towards the more expensive but in fact the house wine was suggested to us as being nice, and a tasting offered. I asked for a wedge of lemon to go with my chicken and instead of the usual limp slice taken from the drinks counter, I was given two freshly cut wedges. This should not be as unusual as it is. So it was all of these things, the good value, the lovely service, the fresh, tasty food, and the generosity that restored my faith in casual dining out in London. It warmed us, we were happy. Isn't that what it's supposed to be about?”
