  “On a very logistically challenging day, with the team juggling all the preparations for a full capacity evening event, the Red Lion in Barnes still gave our group of 18 a brilliant summer lunch. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the team couldn’t have been more accommodating. They made everything feel effortless despite how busy they were. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended!”

  “Big shout out to Claire, Angus & all the staff at The Red Lion for being such great hosts & making the World Cup a fantastic experience in their wonderful garden. From the initial bookings which they were so accomodating with to the seating plan & welcome on arrival, always with a smile. The atmosphere & food was fabulous. Can't wait for The Euros.”

  “both the inside and outside are beautifulll!! the artwork really impressive me and added to the whole atmosphere, made it a very enjoyable place to be and eat in. The food service was quite quick and the food itself was deliciouss, got the cheeseburger and it was so filling and delicious I couldn't even finish. another plus about the area is that its close to the wetland centre if you'd want to go before or after for a walk and further on your time enjoying yourself.”

  “The food is excellent everything we’ve tried has been really delicious. The standout is definitely the chicken pie, which is absolutely outstanding. The sandwiches are also very tasty, and even the new dishes we’ve tried on occasion have been great. One downside is that in Barners, which is a very family-friendly village with lots of children, kids are not allowed after 6 pm. This is a shame, as it really limits the ability to enjoy the pub as a family. Because of this, even though we used to love coming in the early evening for dinner, we probably won’t be able to visit as often as we’d like.”

  “🚇 Barnes 🍺 £7.95 Hawkstone Session Lager The Red Lion is located close to the Wetland Centre in Barnes, southwest London. The nearest station is Barnes. The site was first recorded as a public house in 1718, when it operated under the name The Strugglers. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1835 and rebuilt the same year. Around 1900, an extension was added to the rear. This is a good size Fuller’s pub with one bar across two rooms: a contemporary front bar with an L-shaped counter and snug seating, leading to an elegant Edwardian dining room with open kitchen. At the rear, there’s a covered patio with an outdoor bar and a large beer garden. The decor combines a mixture of styles. The front bar has a modern, bright, and bold feel, with comfortable seating, and I particularly liked the pump clips set into the high tables. The Edwardian dining area at the rear is simply stunning, with striking carved woodwork, a beautiful glazed dome ceiling light, and a wonderful period fireplace. The beer selection was a solid lineup of familiar favourites, independent brews, and five cask ales. I opted for a Hawkstone Session Lager—my pint was excellent, though the price point was high. The food menu features elevated pub classics; fish and chips cost £19.50, and roasts take centre stage on Sundays. I visited at 5:30pm on a warm Friday in April: quiet inside but busy in the garden, with a relaxed, local feel. Service was friendly, and on another visit I had a great chat with the long-standing Guv’nor. I was very impressed by The Red Lion in Barnes. The history, solid beer selection, and comfortable surroundings—plus that amazing Edwardian dining area—make it a bit of a stunner. The price point was a little punchy, but I suppose if this is your local, you’ve got a few bob. Would I recommend a visit? Absolutely. 🍻 📅 24th April 2026”
