Customer Review Summary

Brunch draws the most praise at No 197, with one reviewer calling the English breakfast exceptional and others describing a varied menu, welcoming staff and a spacious room with high ceilings, though one found it slightly chilly. Close behind are the burgers, with one reviewer calling the burger delicious and another finding the shrimp burger nice, plus an evening of cocktails and a DJ that one birthday party called an incredible atmosphere. The quaint rear garden also gets mentions. Several describe friendly, accommodating service, including a quieter spot given to a family with a baby. The criticism is specific. One diner found the croquettes and calamari underwhelming for the price. Another says the happy hour on the blackboard was an old promotion, so a mocktail and a spritz cost more than expected. A bottomless dinner reviewer describes a waiter who forgot a drinks order, leaving them with far fewer drinks than expected and a refused extension, and a steak ordered medium rare that came back well done and then rare.

“We arrived on time for our bottomless dinner, which included a meal and unlimited drinks over 1 hour and 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The biggest issue was the drinks service. Despite the restaurant being fairly quiet for a Friday evening, my friend and I only managed to receive five drinks each over the entire 90 minutes. At one point, our assigned waiter took our drinks order and then disappeared for around 20 minutes. We later saw him having his lunch, which is absolutely fine, but he had clearly forgotten to put our order through or arrange for another member of staff to look after our table. We eventually had to get up ourselves to ask someone to serve us. The new waitress was very understanding, apologised, and kindly agreed to bring us two drinks at a time to make up for the delay. However, we then witnessed our original waiter scolding her in front of other customers for doing so, which was completely unprofessional and uncomfortable to watch. At the end of our booking, we politely asked for a short extension to make up for the 20 minutes we had been left without drinks. The waiter refused. We asked to speak to the manager, but after disappearing for five minutes, he returned saying the manager had also declined. Given the way he spoke to the waitress and handled the situation, we suspected he may have been the manager himself. If that’s the case, his approach to customer service and handling complaints was very poor. The food wasn’t much better. I ordered my steak medium rare, but it arrived well done. After sending it back, the replacement came out rare. By that point, I had completely lost confidence in the experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but unfortunately the service and food did not justify the price. I left feeling disappointed and wouldn’t return. Terrible.”

“No 197 Chiswick fire station is a popular restaurant for brunch, dinner, or cocktails. The modern interior design creates a relaxed atmosphere. All dishes are cooked fresh in the open kitchen in the back. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Friendly and accommodating staff.”

“It says there is happy hour. They then explain that's old promo -even if it's in their blackboard. Now it's only 2 spritzs for £15. I explain my wife is pregnant so she wants an non-alcoholic cocktail. They say it's fine and if we order a mocktail and a spritz. Shockingly, bill is £23. I complain and the say we should've taken two spritz... Nice place but no thank you.”

“I'd been meaning to go to the fire station for some time and it didn't disappoint. From the moment you walk in the beautifully spacious and ambient surroundings pull you towards the main bar, where the super friendly barman greeted us and welcomed us. There's ample seating inside but the gorgeously quaint rear garden was our choice, and it provided a lovely spot for late breakfast and a mooch. The menu is via QR but servers are happ to take your order, and the food on offer is as varied and tasty as you'd expect, with the English breakfast being a standout - its exceptional, and at the price comparable to anywhere in London, and arguably the best I've had as far back as I can recall. I can't wait to visit again, maybe in the evening to enjoy this place once over. A total treat, thanks guys!”

“I recently visited No.197 and had a really lovely experience. The food and service were both excellent, and it’s such a great spot for a working lunch. I ordered the burger, which was delicious you could really taste the quality of the ingredients, and it felt like a dish made with care. The staff were just as impressive attentive, welcoming, and very helpful with recommendations and alternatives. I’ll definitely be returning.”
