About The Pig & Whistle

The Pig & Whistle is a pub on Sheen Lane in East Sheen, London, with rooms upstairs that let visitors stay overnight rather than travel on. The bar pours beers on tap alongside spirits and Guinness, and several large screens carry football, rugby and darts. Food arrives at lunchtime in generous portions, with a chicken burger and fries, sausages and mash, and a Sunday lunch. At the rear, a garden seats drinkers outdoors in booths, with heaters that switch on at the push of a button. Reservations are recommended, and the doors open daily. A step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without stairs, and dogs are welcome inside. The team checks ID at the door for younger customers. The pub sits between a walk up the hill to the park and a walk down the hill to the River Thames footpath.

Customer Review Summary

Friendly, quick service is the thread running through nearly every account, with staff described as welcoming to newcomers and regulars alike, and one visitor recalling a member of staff taking time to help with a cut and handing over a spare plaster. Food sits close behind: the chicken burger is singled out for juicy meat and plenty of fries, the sausages and mash called well seasoned, and portion sizes repeatedly described as generous. A Sunday lunch, good Guinness and a gin and tonic in the sunshine also come up, as does the back garden, where heated booths and a few screens draw mention, and where dogs are met with treats. Several point to the large screens for football, rugby and darts. Less positively, one reviewer felt the meal quality did not match the price and found the chocolate brownie dry, more of a cake, and another reports being refused entry along with friends who offered a passport and driving licence as proof of age, describing it as discrimination.

  • Jenny Curtis
“Great place, the food and menu was very nice. The rooms were lovely, freshly decorated and very quiet and warm. The staff all very friendly and the boss went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again.”
  • Zachary Brown
“The manager has denied my friends despite them being 18. I am outraged about this as I just want to enjoy a drink with my friends and they were making a huge deal. Despite proof of age with both a passport and driving licence, they are still being discriminated. Will not be coming back here.”
