About Woodcocks
Woodcocks is a canalside pub on Saxilby Road in Lincoln, beside Burton Waters marina and with its own canal moorings for visitors arriving by boat. A Garden Grill in the beer garden cooks food to order, and the menus include vegetarian, wheat-free and gluten-free options. The roast dinner comes with pigs in blankets and Yorkshire puddings, and a main-and-dessert deal is offered. The gluten-free roast is made without the Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. Sticky toffee pudding with custard sits on the dessert menu. Orders are placed at the table, and the team will adjust menu choices and say how long a meal will take when the pub is busy. Tables can be booked online in advance. Rooms on site allow overnight stays, and a canal walk is close by.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what most reviewers dwell on, with diners praising the pigs in blankets, a gluten free roast and the sticky toffee pudding with its custard. A half roast chicken plate replaced the roast beef one party wanted, and another reviewer missed gluten free Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. Reviewers also single out the steak, crispy fries and moist burgers. Staff draw consistent praise for staying friendly and helpful on packed evenings, including when a raucous group gave them flack, and for making menu changes. The canal setting, garden and relaxed room for a restless toddler come up too, and hotel guests found the rooms comfortable and quiet. The caveats are mostly about busyness, with slow starters and mains, extra charges for more vegetables, and a peculiar aftertaste in the Yorkshire puddings. One reviewer called a mixed grill cold, with rock hard peas, tough steak and dry chicken wings. Some say they were told how long meals would take when it got busy.

“Someone needs to get that kitchen team sorted out.. Last night's meal was an absolute disgrace.. Chicken wings, dry and rock hard, minimal BBQ coating! And mixed grill, cold, no egg, peas rock hard and dried up, steak tough, gammon rock hard. 2 tiny mushrooms, over cooked... Honestly, how the chef in that place gets away with serving crap is beyond me... It's basics... High end prices, low quality end product.... Will gladly come in and discuss this with the chef and manager face to face... I'd be embarrassed!”

“We went for a multi generational family birthday meal. We had a three year old with us who can't sit still for very long and we felt relaxed enough for her to be able to get up and down and walk around our table without bothering anyone else. The staff were welcoming and the food was tasty, freshly cooked and hot. It also arrived much quicker than expected another plus with an inpatient 3y year old!! We had a really relaxed and enjoyable evening. Thank you.”

“Visited whilst visting family in the area. Whilst extremely busy, which was clearly signed, the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Food was good and still hot which was nice. Hotel rooms were comfortable and quiet. Would visit again when in the area.”

“Lovely setting. Easy booking We were staying in a twin room overnight Place was busy but all staff were great It was clear ‘MATT’ the manager was run off his feet as it was sooo busy.. however he never stopped and provided incredible service as did the others on shift that night. They were very professional despite the demands placed upon them. The tall young man behind the bar was under pressure but remained calm pleasant and helpful… they could have gone with more staff! We were visiting a local event and will be back next year. We recommended the woodcocks to friends at the event and they to will be booking for next year so impressed were they with our praises of the place Very happy 😊”

“I highlight the scenic canal walk as a stroll. The place has plenty of outside garden with plenty of children playing areas. I highlight booking the table in advance because the space fills up quickly. Their steak is incredible the fries are crispy and burgers are moist. They have best chefs who cook well international dishes. They have modern toilets with disabled facilities. They have wireless Internet.”
