About The Jolly Brewer
On Broadgate in Lincoln, The Jolly Brewer is a pub built around live music, with tribute acts, a jam night and a Northern Soul night with a DJ on advertised dates. The refurbished interior carries quotes from bands and musicians on the walls, and a corridor styled after Abbey Road. Wooden bench seating fills the room. The drinks list covers beer and spirits, including Camden IPA, Lager and Stout on tap, Rattler cider, and Dead Man's Fingers rums. Football is shown in the back area. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Live music anchors the praise for this pub, with reviewers describing a jumping, electric atmosphere at a Johnny Cash tribute and a packed Jam Night. A few describe a transformation from a rough old place, singling out the music memorabilia, the quotes from iconic bands and the artwork. The drinks selection comes close behind: Camden IPA, lager and stout, Rattler cider, a range of gins and rums, with prices called reasonable, and one reviewer rates the skittle bombs. Complaints are more mixed. One came for an advertised Northern Soul afternoon and left after the DJ ignored requests and played Ska and Reggae. Another queued a long time at the bar with no outside bar open and skipped a second drink, and a third was told at the first bar that it was cash only. One reviewer found the wooden bench seating uncomfortable and plans to bring a cushion next time. Another recalls staff bringing out a comfy living room chair for his son, who needed to sit down.

“Went in on Sunday evening on my way back from town. Had had 3 pints elsewhere maybe, but it's next to the hotel so I thought I would drop in. Ordered a stout in the first bar. Got told it was cash only. Pint was three quarter pulled, didn't want to walk out and leave it so went over the road to an off licence and got a tenner. Came back, paid cash. . Beer was fine. Change was fine.Pub was quiet. Only stayed for one. Have read the pub accepts card, maybe there is a minimum?. That wasn't explained. Hope that's the case as I would rather support an independent pub than drinking in big chain pubs really.”

“Great first visit for Bruno/Olly tribute. Great atmosphere, friendly crowd. Enjoyed the artist, he got the audience involved. My only gripe...the very uncomfortable seating. You have to arrive at 6pm to get a table, act is on 8-10. Way too long to sit on a wooden bench 😂. Next time I'm bringing a cushion 😜. Looking forward to booking another event and this time booking a hotel so I don't have to drive home x”

“Came today, 25th July specifically for Northern Soul as advertised. Arrived about 2.30pm. Lovely barmaid Lisa and nice Manager. Drinks reasonably priced. Venue outside. Few people already there. Shared a table with really nice couple. Nobody on the floor. Eventually I got up with the chap at our table. I go to a lot of venues and a sign of a good DJ is as to how many people are on the floor. There are two NS records guaranteed to get people up. I went to DJ and asked him to play them. Oh no, he couldn’t play them yet, he would be building up to them😲. His music was not getting people up onto the floor, he was clearly playing what he personally liked. I again went and spoke to him, told him people were starting to leave but got nowhere. Eventually, his wife took over who definitely had better taste than him. I asked her to play Dobie Gray’s Out on the Floor and Frank Wilson’s Do I Love you (indeed I do). She didn’t have Do I Love you? but put on Out on the Floor. Immediately, most people got up. Then another ?DJ started playing Ska and Reggae. We had come for Northern Soul. I had enough of Ska at the Blues Festival last week at Upton Upon Severn. We then left. Such a shame, a nice venue, nice bar staff but a DJ should play what the punters want not what he wants and, importantly, if you advertise a genre of music, that is what you play!”

“Can't comment on the food cos didn't have any. But went to watch a Johnny Cash tribute there at the weekend. I was drinking in there 40 years ago, and it was a rough old place, but wow what a transformation. Still got the character but improved tenfold. The atmosphere was jumping, the singer (in his 80s!!!) Was superb. Took me son with me who has some medical needs and really needed to be sat down where he couldn't fall. All the seats were taken, but, who i assume was, the gaffer and the staff there, bought him out a comfy living room chair. Far above and beyond. A true act of kindness, of which I'm eternally grateful, which also made my day really enjoyable, not having to be stood waiting for him to fall. A great afternoon out had by all.”

“Went to see a band but queued for 30 mins for a drink, no outside bar open. Never bothered for 2nd drink as wasn't queuing again for 20+ mins”
