About Katie O'Brien's Irish Tavern Lincoln

Katie O'Brien's Irish Tavern Lincoln is a pub at 238 High St in Lincoln, decorated in an Irish theme with shamrock and clover details on the walls. Guinness is on the drink list, along with the pickleback shot. Live music comes from a singer and guitarist who play a mix of well-known songs, including Irish tunes. Door staff stand at the entrance and enforce a smart casual dress code, so guests should dress to match before they arrive. Steps lead up to the entrance. Inside, the staff go round collecting glasses and cleaning tables.

Customer Review Summary

Live music is the draw reviewers raise most, with singers and guitarists playing well-known and Irish songs that several say make the atmosphere fun, and one calls out a Monday evening musician who had the room singing along. The pickleback shot is called fabulous, and one reviewer names it the best place for a Guinness in Lincoln. Staff are described as friendly and quick even when the place is busy, and drinks are called reasonably priced, though another reviewer finds them pricey. Beer selection is called a little shy by one fan. Weekends are described as packed, and midweek as quieter, with no musician on a Tuesday. The recurring complaint is entry refusals over clothing. One man was turned away for a CP Company top, and a group in 80s fancy dress was refused, along with smartly dressed men in jackets, with reviewers arguing entry should depend on behaviour, not dress. One reviewer also found a server rude and on his phone. Another reviewer's closing detail is the gents hidden behind one of three green doors.

“We came to Lincoln for an 80s event, we were all dressed in 80s clothes.. we were refused entry because of our clothes..although respectful fancy dress. We respect there is smart casual dress code...but there was a group of men all very smartly dressed in front of us..who also got refused because of their jackets Were not living in the 80s , when suits and ties were the dress code. Just respectful men and women enjoying Lincoln nightlife. Very disappointed and cannot imagine how many others are turned away . This is bad for business Entry should be decided on behaviors, not dress..”

“Went early saturday, staff were great, was a little quiet but it was early. Singer was great although the song choices for a saturday were depressing. The pickleback shot is fabulous. Now... the is only one really downside to this irish bar.. and thats the decor. Im irish.. i want shamrocks on the wall not clovers.. (shamrocks 3 leaves) and clovers are 4.... Either way, great place and door staff awesome too”

“We are big fans of live music, blend with a few pints and you have us hooked. Katie's is a firm favourite of ours. We always visit one if the city has one. Lincoln's Katie's is very good, music was great, beer selection is a little shy but we always find something to drink😁”

“Absolutely ridiculous experience at Katie O’Brien’s Lincoln. I’m a 48-year-old man and was out with my wife of 25 years. Tried to enter and was refused because I was wearing a CP Company top. Yes, seriously. My top. No issue with my behaviour. No trouble. No drunkenness. Just a married couple going out for the evening, but apparently the badge on my clothing was enough to decide I wasn’t suitable to enter. At 48 years old, I genuinely didn’t think I’d reach the stage in life where I needed to check whether my jumper was on a nightclub’s naughty list before going out with my wife. We went elsewhere and, remarkably, civilisation survived. We were welcomed in, spent our money and had a good evening. If CP Company clothing is officially banned, perhaps put a large sign outside so grown adults can check whether their wardrobe meets the required standard before approaching the door. If it isn’t official policy, perhaps management should have a conversation with whoever is making these decisions. One of the most ridiculous reasons I have ever been refused entry anywhere. Don’t worry, Katie O’Brien’s. My dangerous CP Company top and I will spend our money elsewhere. 😂”
