About William Foster

The William Foster is a pub at 12-13 Guildhall St in Lincoln, split into two main areas. Resident DJs take over on set nights each week, and a weekly darts competition and quiz nights fill out the events schedule. Live sport from Sky and TNT Sports plays on HD screens and TVs, and pool tables are on site for those who prefer to play. The bar pours Cask Marque ales and beers alongside spirits and cocktails, with low and no-alcohol options for guests who are not drinking. The food menu covers pub dishes such as fish and chips, a Mixed Grill and jacket potatoes, including a lunch special built around a jacket potato. Cheese toasties are on the menu too.

Customer Review Summary

Negative reviews are nearly as common and focus on food and service. Reviewers report fish and chips with chewy, battered fish skin and little fish, cheese toasties that were slow and underwhelming, hand battered cod that had run out, and a limited beer selection. Several call the staff miserable, and one regular describes being told to leave by the bouncers while having a quiet drink with a child. One diner received a jacket potato with barely any filling and was told that was the portion size, and the refund request went unanswered.

“Very poor experience at lunchtime. Staff were miserable, the beer selection was limited and the cheese toasties we ordered for lunch took over 25 minutes to arrive and proved very underwhelming. Suggest you try the local Salvation Army soup kitchen for a better experience!”
  • Daniel
“Very quiet pub in the morning, was amazing just to sit here and enjoy a drink. Prices are fair too, spent 33 quid for 2 people and thats with a spritz.”
  • Kayleigh
“Rude horrible staff especially bouncers been a regular for years and get treated like a drunken person for quietly having a drink with a child watching football and get told to leave at 6.55 cuz i was rude by saying we had 5 mins left it not 7 yet I shall not be stepping foot in there again and will be going Elsewhere in the future”

“Used this place numerous times over the last few years and has always been 5 star but definitely not now. The table itself was sticky and had not been cleaned properly. We still ordered food though and 30 minutes later had to ask if it would be much longer, despite the place not being very busy at all. Food arrived a few minutes later - the steak pie was ok but the fish and chips had a piece of fish which was more like battered fish skin, there was very little meat in it at all. It was also very chewy and not nice to taste. A real shame to see how much this has gone downhill.”
  • Phillip Lawson
“I have never been in such disgusting toilets, the ammonia smell neatly burnt your eyes, can't believe it could be so bad, absolutely awful. Not really good enough for one star!”
