About Flamingos Coffee House

In Central Arcade, Flamingos Coffee House is a coffee shop and cafe with a book swap section where visitors can take a book or leave one behind. Seating options vary throughout the space, and coffee is available to stay or as takeaway. Drinks come with plant-based milk and a choice of syrups. Wifi is available throughout for anyone settling in. The entrance is step-free and wheelchair-accessible, opening the space to visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome inside. It operates on a walk-in basis and opens daily. The shop's closing time is listed, though the kitchen's own closing hours are not shown on the menu or website, so food service may end earlier than the shop itself.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the book swap, a small library where visitors borrow a book or two and bring their own to add, alongside a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Coffee and cakes come close behind, with a dark mocha, a matcha latte and a blueberry muffin each called the best someone had tried. Food draws praise too, including apple and cinnamon porridge, a tuna melt on sourdough, avocado on toast and freshly baked pastries. Several describe the staff as friendly and the space as inclusive, and one mentions clean toilets with sanitary provisions. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who arrived at 4:30pm to find the kitchen already closed, says it had happened before, and notes nothing on the menu or website gives kitchen hours. The same reviewer feels events have dwindled, with open mic night replaced by stand up comedy. Even so, most visitors describe lingering over coffee with a book from the shelf.

“Arrived today with friends (June 12th) at around 4:30pm as we waited to have a chat and some food at a local small place. The venue was quiet which was a good comparison compared to my past visits where it had been super loud, and there were plenty of seats available. We browsed the menu hungry and holing for food- the menu was basic in a more than perfect way as there’s always something for everyone, but when we went to order at 4:30 was told the kitchen had already been closed. We were sad and frustrated as we hadn’t eaten and were hungry, and assumed the kitchen was open till closing at 6pm as there has never been any information on the menus or website to say when the kitchen closes. Even more frustrating is that this isnt the first time this has happened which leads me to the question do the staff just not open the kitchen on some days- and if so, what’s the point of having a menu that serves items if the kitchen stays closed. We were surprised as although yes it was past lunchtime, but was close to dinner time so assumed the kitchen would be still open to order from. It’s very sad as it seems the shop just keeps making more and more errors- I used to frequent this place when there was a bunch of events on, but now the last year and maybe a little the events have been at a minimum. They removed the open mic night completely from their agenda, and replaced it with stand up comedy, it just seems clear they’d prefer to cater to old people than the younger crowds as well, and if I can’t get food and coffee at times I should be able to get it because the kitchens always closed, I don’t see a reason to keep coming unless I only explicitly need a coffee. I really wish this place picks up and starts to get better again, or something positive changes for them in the future, and I hope this review is taken to consideration in the future and they put something in place on the menu or website to tell people the opening and closing times of the kitchen, or have it open in line with the opening and closing times of the shop as it can really dampen plans for guests who would have probably chosen elsewhere if they’d have known the kitchen wasn’t open”

“My 16 year old daughter had a very enjoyable brunch/lunch here today. I ordered the apple and cinnamon porridge and Molly ordered a tuna melt on sourdough. Both were delicious 😋 The atmosphere and service were both great and vibe welcoming, relaxed and inclusive. I particularly liked the well stocked book swap and my daughter appreciated the range of toiletries in the ladies! Highly recommend. We will return 😃”
