About Pickards Tea Room

Pickards Tea Room sits on Woodhouse Lane in Leeds, in front of the Parkinson Building at Leeds University, and it serves tea by the pot rather than the cup, so a single order yields several cups, with varieties running from Russian caravan to vanilla. Coffee comes in regular and large, flat white and mocha among them. The food counter turns out sandwiches, bagels and baguettes, including large sourdough baguettes packed with filling, and the team will toast or heat sandwiches, baguettes and paninis on request. Cakes and sweet things sit alongside, from muffins and cookies to a peanut butter brownie. The format suits grab-and-go orders, though there is seating for anyone eating in, and orders are placed at the counter without booking. A queue can build in term time. The entrance is step-free, which helps visitors with mobility needs. Opening runs Monday to Friday, with the weekends closed.

Customer Review Summary

Sandwiches lead the praise here, with reviewers singling out the big sourdough baguettes packed with filling, a toasted baguette shared over a read, and a bacon and egg sandwich, alongside a hot panini whose ham drew particular mention. Tea runs a close second, described as a wide choice with a pot that stretched to several cups, including a vanilla pot and a Russian caravan that one drinker found pleasant but not quite strong enough. Coffee also comes up often, from a mocha to a flat white called okay, and an iced frappe with soya milk that one visitor's daughter rated her best. Sweet items get their own nod, with one reviewer highly recommending the peanut butter brownie and others mentioning cookies and a muffin. The main dissent comes from a regular who found a soggy, stale sandwich fetched from the back rather than the shelf, and one visitor thought the interior could use a facelift.

“Yooooo, the food there is cheap and nice. One bacon and egg sandwich, and a mocha for a low low price, it’s very kind to students in Leeds. They deserve this 5 star review. Like for real, but please don’t come here too often. I don’t wanna queue in term time. Thanks for your cooperation.”

“I recently revisited Pickards Cafe, nestled in front of Leeds University's iconic Parkinson Building, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! Being a dedicated coffee aficionado, I couldn't resist the temptation to give their brew another shot, and I'm thrilled that I did. The price is right on the money - £2.40 for a regular cup and £2.80 for a large one. But what truly sets this place apart is the warm welcome from the cafe manager, Jesus. His positive and inviting attitude immediately made me feel at home. The service here is not just fast; it's exceptionally professional. I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive array of sandwiches and bagels that could be toasted to perfection upon request. Now, onto the main event - the coffee. It's more than decent; it's a fantastic value for the price. Sure, the shop could use a bit of a facelift in terms of its interior, but when you're in need of a quick grab-and-go service, it's more than acceptable. In summary, I can't recommend Pickards Cafe enough. I'll definitely be making it a regular stop on my coffee adventures. It's a hidden gem in the heart of Leeds University, thanks to the outstanding coffee, friendly service, and wallet-friendly prices. Five stars without a doubt! Thanks”
