Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the friendly, welcoming staff, with several describing patient, attentive service even when the café is busy, and one autistic reviewer noting they were given plenty of time to answer questions. Coffee and tea come next, called excellent, with the teapots singled out, alongside pastries and a Plum Crumble pie, and a vegan sausage sandwich with chilli jam on a crispy bun. Diners also mention hanging egg chairs, comfortable seating, and a dog friendly room that suits working or catching up. Complaints centre on tables and service. One reviewer says laptop users occupy full four person tables, and another says the café fills up fast. One says the coffee could have been hotter. A Saturday visitor was told of a reduced menu and a long wait with only about ten people inside. Another was served the wrong sandwich order, ate part of it, and was then told to pay for it before the correct order arrived. By contrast, one diner says a server fixed a problem with their order with care.

“Arrived at 12:10 on a Saturday morning. They have menus on every table. When to order and I was told they were on “reduced menu”, and it will take 30min to get anything I order. On a super empty local! Like just 10 people. A bit disappointing. Coffee is okay.”

“We ordered chicken chorizo sandwiches and waited for our food. When it arrived, we were given the wrong order. We genuinely thought it was ours, so we started eating it. Afterwards, the staff member came over and told us it wasn’t our order and that she had brought us the wrong food. We were then told we had to pay for it, before eventually being given our actual order. This is what frustrated me the most. I feel like I’m paying for the waitress’s mistake, when her only job was to serve the food to the correct table. She was the one who didn’t do her job properly, yet I’m the one left paying for it. I understand that mistakes can happen, but this situation could have been handled much better. It wasn’t particularly busy at the time there were only around five customers in the café so I expected a little more attention and better service. I’ll take this as a learning experience. At least now I know where not to come back.”

“This is a great spot for coffee or lunch and well worth the short walk up from the crowded city centre. The café is spacious and airy, and it has air conditioning. We had lunch yesterday: the food was delicious, the ingredients were clearly good quality and I felt we paid a fair price. Great service too.”

“Been coming to Hygge a lot recently to do work, and it has very quickly become my go-to spot for a number of reasons. The service is genuinely outstanding. Even when it gets really busy, the quality of service never seems to drop, which says a lot about the team. Everyone is friendly and attentive, and there’s a very genuine feel to the customer service rather than it feeling forced or transactional. Special shout out to Karri for all the hard work she puts in. She always goes out of her way to make people feel welcome, and even during busy periods still makes the effort to have entertaining, genuine conversations with customers. She’s also given some excellent recommendations from the pastry selection, which have all been lovely so far. The pastry options in general are consistently great, and you can tell care goes into what’s on offer. Will be coming back soon to try more, hopefully Karri or Jade will be their to guide me to whats good! The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, making it a really easy place to settle into for a few hours, whether you’re working, meeting someone, or just stopping by for a coffee. However I will say that it does fill up fast, so best to get there earlier ahah The coffees are excellent too; consistently well made and easily some of the better coffee I’ve had around Leeds. Overall, just a really well-run café with a great atmosphere, great staff, and somewhere I genuinely enjoy spending time. Highly recommend.”
