About The Bridge Inn, Hope Valley

The Bridge Inn, Hope Valley is a stone-built pub on the River Derwent at Calver Bridge. The kitchen cooks its food on site, and the fish comes from Cornwall. The menu includes a traditional Sunday dinner, pork belly with noodles and shin beef lasagne. The bar pours rotating local ales and a selection of wines, and inside a log fire burns. Dogs are welcome inside and out, with blankets, water bowls and free treats provided, while one area of the pub stays dog-free. The enclosed garden beside the river has a children's play area.

Customer Review Summary

Staff are described as welcoming, friendly and efficient. One server charged a child's phone, another brought a highchair, and a family with a relative living with dementia was seated in a quiet spot and chased down to retrieve a forgotten handbag. Several mention the riverside beer garden with a play area, the log fire, and a dog-friendly welcome with water bowls, blankets and free treats. One reviewer is sad that the ivy on the front has been removed, leaving it looking bare. Most reviews are glowing, and a few close on returning visits, including a booked Easter Sunday dinner.

“Really enjoyed my choice of roast dinner today. The staff are really welcoming and friendly. Nice people. The choice on the menu is varied and seems to cater for everyone. The sirloin was cooked well and tasted really good! The accompanying veg was delicious too! A large choice for drinks. A great pub! I will be going again.”

“We met some friends of ours from Kent in the Peaks. After a walk and clamber on the rocks we stopped for a drink and snack. The staff were very welcoming and helpful (they charged my son's phone for him during our visit there). The chips we bought were absolutely delicious! Good selection of food and drinks. There were lots of bowls to fill with water for furry companions. It is located on the Riverside and so the scenery is beautiful too. They have a large beer garden and a play area for children. All in all a lovely place.”

“Visited for Sunday lunch with my parents, including mum who has Alzheimer's. We were put in a lovely quiet spot, the service was fabulous (including chasing us down with the forgotten handbag) and it made eating out with mum (which is often a challenge) as easy as possible. Food was lovely and reasonably priced and it didn't feel like we waited a long time for the food to arrive. Thank you!”
  • Jonny Greensmith
“We came for the first time on a nice sunny day and were impressed. The attractive riverside beer garden has the advantage of being fully enclosed with a play area for kids, we then went inside for food which we really enjoyed, both the pork belly with noodles and shin beef lasagne were very good. Estrella Galicia on tap is a bonus too.”
  • M K (Sinister Penguin)
“Nice pub with great food & fantastic service. The landlord & staff were really attentive & immediately dropped whatever they were doing to attend to customers. Really refreshing compared to many places. Food was great & a nice selection of beers & wine. Nice outside area & dog friendly inside & out with blankets for dogs to lie on & free treats.”
