About The Grouse Inn

The Grouse Inn is a pub at Longshaw House in Sheffield, set near Padley Gorge and the Longshaw Estate and used as a base for walks on Froggatt Edge and the Gritstone Edges. Boot covers wait at the door for walkers, and the floor inside is carpeted. The owners' dogs roam the pub and come up to tables, and a fireplace sits inside. The kitchen makes its steak pie in-house, and fish and chips is also on the menu. Salad plates, including a quiche, a cheese salad and a Greek salad special, come with chips, and smaller portions are available. The pub takes walk-ins.

Customer Review Summary

Homemade steak pie by the fireplace is the dish diners name most, with one calling it a winner. The setting runs close behind. Reviewers use the pub as a base for walks on the Gritstone Edges, Padley Gorge and the Longshaw Estate, and they praise the views from the outdoor tables by the fence. Others single out the creamy veg lasagne with crispy chips, a Greek salad special, the pavlova, a fish finger sandwich on crusty bread and a Bradfield Belgian Blue ale. Kitchen consistency divides reviewers. One describes a microwaved quiche with ruined pastry, another dry fish and chips with chips taken for supermarket ones and undercooked frozen peas, and a third found the fish watery and unseasoned. One reviewer waited a long time for food, while others found service fast. Several mention the owners' dogs wandering up to tables, and one reports a dirty table that was never cleaned. Another reviewer notes boot covers at the door for muddy walkers.

“Went here to eat after a circular walk (Frogatt-Curbar-Baslow-White edges). Only downside was we waited for almost an hour for our food so we can't really say if it was delicious or we were just hungry. Other that that, fantastic location, and great views if you take the tables outside by the fence.”

“Great place to stop with spectacular views. The food looks and smells fantastic but haven't yet tried it.”

“This pub has improved from average to excellent. I had a veg lasagne which was creamy and delicious. The chips were perfect - crispy and light. What would have been a bog standard salad was elevated with lovely sharp pickled carrot in fine slices rounded with perfect homemade coleslaw. It's really nice that they offer smaller portions for a lower price which made it excellent value too. And a stunning location. We did a great 4 mile walk down to Padley Gorge and through part of the Longshaw Estate.”

“I had the Greek salad special with chips and was not disappointed, great for a summer evening. My table also had the steak pie which is a winner. We all had dessert and the pavlova was amazing.”

“Overpriced frozen oven food, had the fish and chips - clearly chips from the supermarket and somehow undercooked frozen peas. Fish was dry. Ridiculous price at £20 for that. Pub itself is pretty filthy and unwelcoming, endless signs about what they don’t permit. Owner’s dog roaming round unattended, not everyone wants your dog inflicted on them! See other reviews on lack of cleanliness and the dog. Shame as used to be a nice pub in a lovely spot, would go for a drink and packet of crisps, but nothing more.”
