About The Three Merry Lads

On Main Rd in Cutthorpe, Chesterfield, The Three Merry Lads is a family-run country pub with a function room that can be hired for special events and groups. Live bands and solo artists, karaoke and disco, and games nights make up the entertainment. A separate area holds a pool table, and darts and board games are on hand. The bar pours cask ales alongside lagers, beers and spirits, with non-alcoholic drinks too, and orders are placed there. Food is served through the afternoon into early evening, with a light bites menu next to the main menu. Sunday lunch is a traditional home-cooked roast. A coal and log fire burns inside, and dogs are allowed in, with seating and dining near the bar for those who bring one. The pub is closed on Wednesdays.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the Sunday roast, described as traditional home cooked and delicious, with portions that left a table of ten completely full and won over a fussy 9 year old. Close behind are the gammon and beer-battered fish and chips, where the chips were large-cut, non-greasy and crispy, and the burger and light bites fish and chips, both called good value. A family Christmas dinner was too big for one diner to finish. Staff and the landlady are repeatedly called friendly and chatty, and the pub is consistently dog friendly, with one landlord photographing five dogs on a covered chair. A coal and log fire, darts, board games and a pool table also get mentions. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found no accessible toilet, a broken cubicle lock, a damaged toilet paper dispenser and no disabled parking near the entrance. The same reviewer saw a waitress ask whether the chef was cooking. Another called the Sunday dinner a bit expensive, and a third found the pub slightly worn, though the pint of Landlord, enjoyed outside, was great.

“Had a family Christmas dinner and the food was fantastic in both quantity and quality. 3 course meal and as hard as I tried I just couldn't finish it. The staff were very friendly and we were able to have a laugh and a joke with them. I would definitly recommend”

“Local village pub Immediate impression was not great as no disabled parking spaces near entrance. This continued inside with small doors to enter bar and dining area. Discovered there is no accessible toilet either; cubicle poor as lock broken and toilet paper dispenser damaged. Order at bar which is dog friendly. Not busy Thurs lunchtime time Limited menu but food and drinks good. Waitress friendly. Food only served 1pm to 7pm. Waitress had to ask if chef was cooking at 5 to 1. Not a great choice of seating.”

“Such a lovely cosy pub with a coal/log fire and dog friendly. The food and drinks were very good value. I had an amazingly simple yet delicious burger for £9. My friend had a fish and chips from the light bites menu which was £6 and it did not disappoint. They have darts, board games and a pool table. I will be back! Lovely chatty landlady.”
