About The Villager

The Villager is a family pub on Erskine Rd in Gravesend, set in the middle of a village close to Trosley Country Park and a walk along the top of the downs. A play area and a large green at the front give families with children space to play outside the pub. Dogs are welcome inside as well. The kitchen serves a Sunday roast with a choice of roast meats and vegetables, and cauliflower cheese comes alongside it. Apple crumble is among the desserts. The bar pours beer and wine to go with the food. Live football matches, including England games, are shown for anyone who wants to watch.

Customer Review Summary

The Sunday roast is what most reviewers come for, praised for huge portions, fresh seasoned veg and the cheesiest cauliflower, though one diner found the bechamel on that cauliflower fatty and heavy. Barbecue ribs get a mention as perfectly cooked, coming off the bone without being dry, with a home made sauce that was not too sticky or sweet. Apple crumble is also singled out, arriving quickly. Reviewers repeatedly describe the food as good value and the staff as friendly and helpful, one saying they went out to buy lactose free milk for a coffee. Families and walkers mention the play area, the green out front and outdoor seating, and one party chose it for being dog friendly near the country park. The one complaint is a delayed meal, which the staff answered by putting beers on the house.

“Charming pub literally in the middle of a village which initself is in the middle of woodland. We went there to catch the England game and it was packed to the brim with locals who you could tell have probably had generations of family who have gone there for years. Extremely child friendly, there's a lovely play area and huge green at the front.”

“Had to make and and unschedule stop and so popped in to The Villager for a drink. The staff were so helpful and friendly, even going out of their way to go and buy lacto free milk for one of us so that we could enjoy our coffee. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area to give it a try, we will be coming again when we are next passing. Thank you!”
