About The Cricketers Inn
The Cricketers Inn is a family-run gastropub on Wrotham Rd in Gravesend, with a beer garden that has a retractable roof and looks out over a Kent windmill. Inside, open fires burn through the pub, and a library section with tables displays local historical references. A wine cellar sits upstairs and can be seen by visitors. The kitchen cooks homemade food, with roasts on the menu alongside other choices. Starters include chilli nachos, and mains run to ham, egg and chips or sea bass. Dogs are welcome, which suits walkers stopping in with their pets. A free car park serves the pub.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the food, with the chilli nachos starter, the goat's cheese and ham hock starters, the sea bass with its crispy underside, and ham, egg and chips named as highlights. Portions are described as plentiful and fresh, and the Sunday menu is noted for offering more than roasts. Close behind, the garden and the nostalgic interior with its library section draw praise, and several call the staff friendly. The recurring complaint is slow service on busy days. One Sunday party was forgotten after being seated and had to ask for menus, then waited over half an hour for mains after being told of an order mix up. Another table waited a long time for roasts, found the roast potatoes not crispy, and had to walk to the till to get the bill. Some staff were described as disengaged with little knowledge of the menu. Several mention booking because it is busy, and one notes a service charge added automatically to the bill. One reviewer describes a wobbly garden table fixed with a stone.

“The pub itself is cosy and clean, and the food is good, but not excellent. Roast potatoes are not crispy at all which lets down the roast but other than that, was a good solid Sunday lunch. The service needs work, our table of two waited 45 minutes for our food, and a nearby table of 4 waited closer to an hour. I feel like that is very excessive and we weren’t made aware at the time of ordering, but I do think this sort of wait time should be communicated. We also had to ask twice for the bill and then ended up just walking to the till so we could leave. The staff seem very busy so I do feel sorry for them! The atmosphere is fine, feels like a restaurant if you sit inside, there are no tables for just having a drink, no seats at the bar etc. The outside feels like a pub which is nice but isn’t helpful for 6-7 months of the year.”

“Had the best ham, egg and chips I've had in a very long time, great service, friendly staff, plenty of free parking in beautiful location. The pub was clean, we sat in the lovely garden where the seating was comfy, had a wobbly table but there was a stone provided to balance it out and it worked perfectly with beautiful parasols. Would highly recommend.”

“Beautiful place in the rurals of Kent. The interior is wonderfully nostalgic with a library section with tables and plenty of references to the historical significance of the area dotted around the pub. The Food is excellent and the staff are friendly, professional and attentive. There's also a gorgeous outdoor & garden area for food and / or drink.”

“We went as a party of 4 booked for 3.15pm on a Sunday. It was really busy when we arrived and was seated after buying our first round of drinks. Unfortunately we were forgotten after we were seated and after about 15 mins or so had to ask for menus. Then we was left a while again. We then flagged a member of staff and they took our order. We ordered starters and mains and the starters came after about 20 mins but then the mains took over half an hour and again we had to ask for an update and was told there had been a mix up with the orders and it wouldn't be long. The food itself was presented well and tasted really good. The portions were plentiful and all fresh produce. We left the pub near to 6pm which was probably an hour more than we anticipated but they are obviously really popular and so just bare that in mind especially on a Sunday if your in a rush or have appointments to be elsewhere. Other than that it was good.”

“Great pub for food (and drinks of course). Very well presented and decorated. We couldn't make a booking over the phone, but tried our luck after a walk in the area. Fortunately they managed to accommodate us. It was absolutely packed. All four of us loved the food ordered. There's a nice wine cellar upstairs opposite the toilets, that can be seen by visitors. Also super well made framed caricatures on wine drinking, all over the walls of male toilets. I guess in the ladies too. Anyway, nice and friendly place, great food and atmosphere.”
