Customer Review Summary

Coffee is the draw for nearly every reviewer, with a silky smooth flat white and an iced latte singled out, and several believe the beans are roasted in house. Pastries and cakes come close behind. The almond and chocolate croissant is raved about, along with the cannolis and an orange pie that one diner counts among the best desserts they have had. Savoury picks include a bacon bagel with a side salad and focaccia for a light lunch, while the hot chocolate is called creamy and the hibiscus tea earns praise too. Reviewers describe friendly counter service that stays efficient on a busy day, a relaxed atmosphere, good wifi for studying, and a short walk to Portobello beach. The one complaint comes from a reviewer who loves the coffee but finds loud barking from dogs inside annoying, since not every dog behaves well. Another visitor describes their dog sitting patiently and overseeing the baristas.

“I really love this place. The coffee here is the best..deep, full of flavour and aroma African coffee. Food as well everything top class. The only thing I don’t like about this place is the barking dogs. I understand about the “dogs friendly” places but not every dog behaves well. The loud barking can be very annoying.”

“These guys really know how to do coffee! The tea was also really good, and I had one of the best desserts I've ever had there. I think it’s called an orange pie. I definitely recommend going there!”

“Never been here before, this was great. Again young guys serving, is it because we are old 😆, but so nice, relaxed and lovely service! The cafe was lovely to sit in then we saw that they did their own in-house coffee. Highly recommended and right on the high street, excellent.”

“Fantastic coffee and first rate cannolis. Always greeted with a glass of water and a smile when they take your order and the place has a lovely chilled out vibe and a great range of cakes and pastries. I can also recommend the bacon bagel which is incredible and comes with the most wonderful side salad. Back again today for a light breakfast. As ever, superb coffee and we had the almond and chocolate croissant that my friend had been raving about. He wasn’t wrong! Outstanding and great service too. Our most recent visit (25 July) was brilliant as usual and our four-legged visitor had a great time overseeing the baristas! Tanifiki is pup friendly and whilst he sat patiently and enjoyed the vibe, we enjoyed coffees and more of those almond and chocolate croissants.”

“We’re regular customers at Tanifiki, and always happy with the coffee, the food/cake options and the friendly service. Today was busy, but the counter service seems to work well, and we were served our order efficiently and with a smile. Can’t ask for better from a local coffee shop 😊”
