Kilimanjaro Coffee
Quick info
About Kilimanjaro Coffee
On Nicolson St in Edinburgh, Kilimanjaro Coffee runs as a coffee shop, breakfast spot and tea room set along a long corridor layout with little nooks tucked off to the sides. The kitchen serves a Kili breakfast with egg and potato pancake, avocado toast with poached egg, and scones recommended with clotted cream, alongside a gluten free brownie. Hot drinks arrive in proper crockery, and tea is poured from teapots with loose leaves. Service runs on a walk-in basis, and the cafe opens daily and stays open later than many other cafes in the city, useful for evening visits. A step-free entrance welcomes visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome in the space. Outdoor seating extends the room for anyone who prefers to sit outside, and window seating is available inside for those who'd rather look out over Nicolson St while they eat.

Customer Review Summary
Service splits the reviews. Several find the staff friendly, while others describe a server rolling her eyes at non-native speakers, staff glaring over a request for sugar, and servers who can be moody. Food execution draws complaints too: an overcooked egg and burnt potato pancake on the Kili breakfast, and an avocado toast with an overcooked poached egg and no seasoning. A few call prices high, and one notes the back smells of the toilet and the tables look roughed up. One reviewer notes there is no WiFi.

“The most delicious Eggs Benedict ive ever tasted. Highly recommend paying this cafe a visit 🥰”

“I don’t normally leave reviews, and I wasn’t going to right after leaving. But just one day later I find myself sitting in a cafe and ordering a coffee. Then I’m reminded by just how many places charge eating out prices for the most burnt, bitter coffee you’ve ever had. Usually better off getting a machine made Costa coffee with a meal deal. It made me appreciate how smooth and tasty my coffee here was, and for such a good coffee, it was priced very fairly. I’ll find myself coming back next time I’m in the area. Gluten free brownie was also super chocolatey and tasty.”

“The coffee was very good, the pastries were okay, but the staff were absolutely dreadful. The woman who took our order would roll her eyes whenever we didn’t understand something. She was nice to native speakers, though. As a foreigner, you don’t feel welcome here and would be better off going somewhere else. There are an incredible number of friendly and lovely Scots – unfortunately not among the waiting staff there.”

“one of my fav cafes for some downtime like read a book! Great chai lattes (hot and cold) as well as selection of teas. Super friendly staff and great music! When the Edinburgh sun comes out (which is a rarity!) the best spot becomes the window seating to bask like a cat 🐈”

“Terrible experience with American female who banged my coffee cup on the table without eye contact. Music blaring, unable to block it out with noise cancelling headphones, wouldn't turn it down. Coffee was only good thing”
