About Well House Inn
Well House Inn is a country pub on Chipstead Ln in Coulsdon, dating back to the 16th century and still keeping fireplaces. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, which gives dog owners a place to stop with their pets. The kitchen cooks Sunday roasts and pub dishes, including a steak and Guinness pie, and the bar pours cask ales. The Well House burger comes as a bacon cheeseburger with fries, coleslaw and onion rings. A garden at the rear is used for private functions and events. An overflow car park sits in a paddock opposite the pub.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food at this old country pub, with generous portions and good value coming up repeatedly. Named favourites include the steak and Guinness pie, the Well House burger with fries, coleslaw and onion rings, the Cajun fries, breaded prawns and panko breaded Brie. One vegan diner had a mushroom pie adapted to suit and a apple and cranberry crumble tart, and was glad to be accommodated without emailing ahead. Close behind is the friendly, attentive staff, with one table's mixed-up meal put right immediately and another guest receiving a call beforehand offering a move to the main dining area. The cosy, quaint interior, outdoor seating with heaters and a garden also draw mentions, and one group held a gender reveal party here. The only criticism is a light one: a reviewer hunting for the ideal country pub noted there was no roaring log fire. One reviewer suggests booking weeks ahead, and another found the pub dog friendly in the bar area.

“We came after a long walk and the pub has very friendly and helpful staff with lots of options for sitting in and outside. Food menu was varied and an excellent quality. Nice selection of beer/drinks. Will certainly go again.”

“We popped in on the off chance while visiting Mugswell. We were unsure to begin with as it appeared very busy with a function going on in the lovely garden to the rear. Car park was busy but there was an overflow car park in a paddock opposite the pub. Sign on the door indicated the pub would be closing for a private function at 4pm and we were not that hopeful of getting a meal, how wrong we were. We recieved a warm welcome and a table for two in the restaurant. The team were very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent and very reasonable. Would highly recommend.”

“Lovely, very old pub. Went for lunch on a Saturday with friends. Made a reservation as we’re not sure how busy it would be. Food was very nice and big portions. They have seating outside, which is lovely on warm days. Inside is very nice and cosy. Staff were friendly.”

“Beautiful venue for our gender reveal party, staff was so lovely and helpful when organising/setting up and the catering/food was gorgeous! We’re regulars at the pub anyway and it’s just an amazing pub in general. Would highly recommend to anyone who needs a venue for an occasion or if you just want to go somewhere nice for some food and atmosphere.”
