Quick info
About Skimmington Castle
Skimmington Castle is a pub on Bonnys Rd in Reigate, set in a 15th century building. Space by the beer garden lets riders tie up their horses, so visitors on horseback can stop in. Real ales are served, and the pub holds quiz nights. The Sunday lunch menu features roast dinners with roast potatoes, and fish and chips is also on the menu. A conservatory seating area adds room to sit, and a coffee room annexe is attached to the pub. Entry is walk-in. The pub sits away from the main road, so a sat nav helps with finding it. A very large car park at the rear is free for those arriving by car.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the most frequent draw, with reviewers calling the fish very fresh, lightly battered and a good amount, and friends at another table happy with theirs as fresh and tasty. Close behind are the desserts, a pear, apple and blackberry crumble and a panna cotta, along with friendly staff. Others praise a half roast chicken with cauliflower cheese, chips with cheese and pulled pork, a crisp cider, and the coffee room annexe for great coffee and views. The roasts and other mains draw the sharpest complaints. One reviewer found dried out roast potatoes and a pulled pork flatbread like paste, another a dry burger, and a third a tiny lamb portion and pork belly that was mostly fat. Several report very slow food with nobody checking drinks, and one mentions cobwebs and a rude member of staff inside. One Sunday diner says the unlimited roast potatoes had run out, a staff member argued over the menu wording instead of offering anything in return, and an emailed complaint went unanswered.

“We enjoyed the 30 walk from Reigate. Lovely sunny evening but managed to get an outside table. My cider was crisp and refreshing. Plenty of chips with cheese and pulled pork.”

“Went there on recommendation of the fish and chips. It didn't disappoint! The fish was very fresh, good amount and battered lightly. Had the panna cotta for dessert, which was amazing. Very friendly staff on a very hot June day!”

“Sat in the ‘conservatory’ with the aircon on full. Didn’t seem to be working though. Seats were hard. Tables were old and had writing on. Food was poor. The roast dinner my Son received looked like it had sat on a hot plate for best part of the day. Potatoes were dried out rocks. I had the BBQ pulled pork flat bread. The pork was more like paste. The BBQ sauce was not BBQ sauce. Hot. Stuffy. Thrown in corner with the rest of the room filled by a large group. Positives: Waitresses were polite, quick and worked hard. Drinks were nice and cold. Skimmington Castle should be renamed Skimmington cells. Ruined my Father’s Day. Won’t be returning.”
