Quick info
About The White Hart
The White Hart is a pub in Coulsdon on Hazelwood Ln, set in the village of Chipstead. Panelled walls and open fires define the bar, and the dining area has a fire of its own. Seating is split between the pub itself and a separate restaurant area, so a meal and a drink at the bar can each have their own space. The menu includes fish and chips and a beef and potato pie, with gluten free and vegetarian options for diners who need them. Sticky toffee pudding is one of the desserts. Quiz nights are held at the pub, which gives the week a fixed social event for teams and groups of friends. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the food at The White Hart, with fish and chips, a beef and potato pie with buttery mash, and roast duck named as highlights. Lamb cooked perfectly gets a mention too. Close behind are the desserts, including an Eton Mess one diner calls the best in a very long time, a lemon cheesecake with raspberry sorbet, and a brownie. The staff are repeatedly described as friendly, welcoming and attentive, and the fire, the beer garden and the lively quiz nights add to the atmosphere. Two reviewers who are coeliac or need gluten free meals praise the choice, and several note plenty of vegetarian options. Reviewers also mention that it gets busy, and one suggests booking a table in advance. The criticisms are specific. One diner found the sticky toffee pudding disappointing, with too little sauce so it read more like a date cake, and another says service was very slow on a busy Sunday, with drinks, condiments and the bill all forgotten a few times. One reviewer describes a Mother's Day lunch with a set menu where the roast duck stood out.

“We had a lovely lunch at The White Hart and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The pub itself is beautiful, warm and welcoming, and the staff made us feel so well looked after from the moment we arrived. What a fantastic team you have ⭐️ The food was delicious, and the Eton Mess was exactly as it should be – in fact, it was the best we’ve had in a very long time!Thank you to everyone for such a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back.”

“Happened to drive past this beautiful pub on the way to another, but thought we'd give this one a go! Parked across the road (athough the pub has a car park, which we missed!). Immediately felt welcome and was shown to a table in an air-conditioned area. The staff were exceptionally attentive and didn't keep us waiting. Although it didn't affect us, there were lots of options for vegetarians and those requiring gluten free meals. The food was out of this world! At the time of writing this, the food hygiene rating is 5/5. Will definitely be coming back!”

“Perfect beer garden, great food, nice ambience and our server (Lou) was hreat. Also brilliant for gluten free. We are both coeliac and the choice is great. Overall a lovely Friday evening in the summer.”

“I can’t recommend The White Hart in Chipstead enough. It’s one of those rare places that feels like the heart of the community, while also drawing people in from all over the UK—and once you’ve been, it’s easy to see why. The quiz nights are a real highlight. They’re always lively, well-run, and just the right mix of competitive and fun. Whether you’re a trivia expert or just there for a laugh, it’s worth paying attention and getting involved, as it can get surprisingly competitive in the best way. Lizzie has truly made the pub her own, and it shows. It’s now packed most days, with a buzzing atmosphere that makes every visit feel like an event. Because of that, it’s definitely a good idea to book a table in advance if you’re planning to go. What really makes the place stand out is the staff. They’re genuinely some of the warmest, most welcoming people you could hope to meet. Nothing ever feels like too much trouble, and they create an environment where you instantly feel at home. Whether you’re local or travelling in, The White Hart is absolutely worth a visit. Great people, great atmosphere, and a proper pub experience that keeps people coming back.”
