Quick info
About Dirty gnocchi (Cardiff Market)
Dirty gnocchi is an Italian street food restaurant in Cardiff Market, at 5-7 St Mary St in Cardiff. Pasta here is tossed in a giant Parmesan cheese wheel, so the cheese is part of the dish itself. The tagliatelle is fresh, and diners choose their own toppings. The Dirty Milanese tagliatelle comes with beef ragu and Parmesan fried chicken, while the fried gnocchi gives the stall its name on the menu. A veggie carbonara covers vegetarian orders, and daily specials change what is on offer from one visit to the next. The business runs as a market stall, so the format is quick and casual. A small seating area inside the shop gives diners somewhere to sit and eat.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the pasta tossed in the giant cheese wheel, with the Dirty Milanese tagliatelle and a veggie carbonara among the versions named. Diners describe the pasta as fresh, cheesy and rich, with a good bite, and one calls it better than anything else on the menu. Close behind is the fried chicken Parmesan, called tender and crisp, and the crispy fried gnocchi, which one reviewer found a pleasant surprise. A day's special salad with burrata, pesto, fried chicken and fried aubergine also earns praise. Portions and value come up repeatedly, and the staff are described as friendly and quick, with one lunch order arriving in under five minutes. The caveats are small but specific. One reviewer found a piece of chicken a little tough on the outside, and another, ordering near closing time, got rubbery gnocchi, clumped bacon bits and a dish that ran salty and greasy, though the aioli had decent depth. Several mention coming back for lunch, and one notes a seating area inside.

“Nice price, nice food. And veg options! I stumbled upon this stand on a lunch break and decided to give it a try. The pasta is fresh, they infuse it with their cheese wheel and you have different toppings. I went for the veggie carbonara and it did not disappoint. £9. The workers were super nice too and they worked quite fast. I didn't wait even 5min. Definitely a must try if you come to Cardiff Market.”

“An excellent option for lunch! I had a salad which was a special of the day — a combination of all of my favorites… arugula, tomatoes, burrata, pesto and topped with fried chicken and fried aubergine. Delicious! Staff was friendly and service was quick.”
