Quick info
About Parallel by Pasture
Parallel by Pasture is a restaurant on High St in Cardiff, built around an open kitchen where chefs cook over live fire in front of the chef's counter seating. It is the sister venture to the steakhouse Pasture next door. A bar and the open kitchen share the front of the room, so guests at the counter watch their plates being made. The menu is small plates meant for sharing, including BBQ scallops with hazelnut brown butter, rösti fries with a dashi mayonnaise and short rib and leek croquettes. A chef's selection of 7 items is also available. Cocktails and a wine list make up the drinks. Reservations are required.

Customer Review Summary
The slow-grilled carrot starter is the dish reviewers raise most, called legendary and the best carrot one diner has had, with a cashew sauce base, though one found it far too sweet. Close behind are the rösti fries with dashi mayo, crisp outside and soft in the middle, and the BBQ scallops with hazelnut brown butter. Diners also praise the Char Sui pork chop, the T-bone to share, leek croquettes with black garlic paste, and a dessert with beef fat caramel. Several enjoy counter seating by the open kitchen, chatting with the chefs, and servers who talk them through the menu. Complaints are specific: a long wait for food, monkfish with a too salty chickpea sauce, an overcooked and dry ribeye, and noise and cramped tables where people get bumped. One diner who asked for beef fat on the side was told only that the taste was not for everyone. Another table was invited after the meal to a private cocktail bar in Pasture.

“Waited for the food about 50 minutes. The carrot which recommended by the waiter was not good at all, way too sweet, I only had a bite, the chicken and cauliflower were very good, the monkfish was good but the chickpeas sauce was way too salty, the bread was good and I was surprised how much beef fat would have got on the bread if not asking for having it on the side. Most of the restaurant which has good service would have taken it off the bill but the waiter only said, oh the taste was not for everyone… wouldn’t recommend unfortunately.”

“Amazing place, great food, everything was so good. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection as ordered medium rare, but sadly the ribeye was overcooked and a bit dry. Besides that, all sides and entrées were delicious. If the consistency in the steaks were on spot, then definitely a 5-star. Would return.”

“I love a grill with a twist and this doesn’t disappoint. Very happy with the small plate selection of leek croquettes (the black garlic paste set the dish off), BBQ scallops with hazelnut brown butter and the slow-grilled carrot which was a meal in itself. Didn’t have room for the duck leg but I snapped a pic instead. It’s all heading in a five star direction with some great attention to detail and thoughtful service.”

“Booked Parallel by Pasture for our 7th anniversary and it absolutely delivered. Sat at the chef’s counter which was the best decision we made — possibly in 7 years of relationship xD Josh our server was warm, welcoming and walked us through the menu brilliantly. The famous carrot starter is legendary for a reason (that cashew sauce base — chef’s kiss). The T-bone to share was incredible, but the real dark horse? The rösti fries with dashi mayo. One of the chefs explained how labour-intensive they are and honestly, we ate the rest of them with a new level of respect. Got to chat with two of the chefs throughout the night — genuinely lovely humans. The vibe was immaculate from start to finish. Dessert had beef fat caramel which sounds alarming and tastes amazing. Would’ve loved a little anniversary surprise but truly, no complaints — just an excuse to come back sooner. 10/10, will return, already thinking about it.”

“Fantastic meal at Parallel this evening! Went for the selection of small plates. Delicious! 😋 That’s the best tasting carrot I’ve ever had. 😂 We highly recommend this place.”
