Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is what diners single out most, with one calling it the best they have had in a pub and another comparing it to a fish shop, one reviewer pairing it with a gin and tonic. Several describe the food as good, quick and not expensive, and staff are repeatedly called courteous and friendly. A couple of reviewers say a bartender knew the menu and gave great recommendations. The small garden, with a tree and outside tables in alcoves, is called peaceful, and one reviewer praises the wine. Another says it is the only place in the bay playing a rugby match with sound. The criticism is specific. One regular ordered an Asahi, was poured a Carling, and got an eye roll when correcting it while the bartender watched rugby. A local found no vegan options beyond sides and called the mushroom bites ok. One reviewer recalls water being brought for their dog without asking.

“Kit was great. He knew everything on the menu and gave great recommendations. Wow what a Barman. Don’t find ones like him anymore, minus Monday Mike who is the best bartender in the Eli. I heard he doesn’t even need to work there he just does for the love of the game.”

“Was very disappointed with the service received that week at my regular pub, ordered Asahi and the bartender (who I believe manages the pub) poured carling. I tried to say “excuse me” twice, but he was more interested in the rugby / football going on behind me. When he gave me the pints, I told him what I actually ordered and he rolled his eyes at me. Not the kind of service you expect as a paying customer, and has deterred me from wanting to return.”

“The only place playing the NZ v SA game with sound in the bay. 🙏 Definitely the best spot to watch sports, lovely staff, but zero vegan options unless you want sides only. 😭 I’m local so a bit disappointing. I tried the mushroom bites. They were ok.”

“I enjoyed a meal at the Eli Jenkins today with my wife and two grown up Grandaughter's. The ordered off of the main menu and I ordered fish and chips from the meal and drink menu. All the food was excellent! The fish and chips was the best I've ever had in a pub! Well done to all the staff 👏 .”

“£10.95 for fish and chips with a Gin and tonic! Very good value and one of the best fish and chips I have tasted outside a fishshop. Service was exceptional and water was brought for the Dog without even asking. Totally Dog Friendly. Great Atmosphere with outside tables in alcoves and pleasant relaxing music. Will definitely be back there.”
