  “We visited Sole & Duck to celebrate my wife's birthday and we were not disappointed. The venue is beautifully decorated, the staff are very polite and efficient, and the food is great. I enjoyed the rump/sirloin steak medium rare which was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. My wife had the duck breast, which was nice but could have been slightly more pink. For dessert I had a sticky toffee pudding which, while nice, didn't feel like a £10 dessert. My wife enjoyed a creme brulé. At the end my wife was presented with some ice cream on a plate with Happy Birthday written in chocolate which was a nice touch. Overall it was a classy and enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend.”

  “Over several years, this has become one of my favorite restaurants in Cambridge and the wider Cambridge area. It is a beautiful old pub, very nicely refurbished and maintained. The menu is always changing, but the Korean Fried Chicken starter is one of my favorite dishes anywhere - I think about it regularly. The service is always wonderful and even remembers details about us, and every time I have dined there, it has been memorable to the point of making me want to move back to Cambridge. Really great restaurant and cannot recommend it highly enough!”

  “This is a very special restaurant. We recently spent our wedding anniversary dinner there and, as usual, it was wonderful. The atmosphere is cool, quiet and elegant. The staff are very friendly and helpful if you want advice about which wine to choose, etc. The whole place is absolutely spotless and beautifully decorated. It is open Tuesdays through to Sunday - but I advise you to book. It is not cheap to dine there - but it is worth every penny (pence).We had king prawns in butter garlic sauce served with chargrilled, sourdough bread (which is made fresh every day), we both then chose lemon sole, each choosing different ways of it being cooked - and both exceptional, with triple-cooked chunky chips.We finished with “apple pie” which consisted of very thin slices of freshly cooked apple laid on a circle of beautiful, buttery crispy pastry and served with vanilla ice cream. Fine dining at its best!”

  “Last weekend we had our wedding meal for 30 people at the Soul & Duck. Katy was so lovely throughout the planning process, she thought of everything and we couldn’t have felt in better hands. On the day we were greeted with delicious canapés and sparkling English wine which we enjoyed in their secluded garden. We were then seated in the private dining room and it felt as though we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. The food was incredible, and every dietary requirement was catered for. The staff really looked after us, accommodating our impromptu speeches and many espresso martinis. Couldn’t recommend enough for a small wedding or celebration!”

  “I went with my family for dinner for a graduation celebration. They have a very extensive list of wines and spirits to choose from and the staff were very friendly. The food was good although the courgette flower was a little sweeter than I expected. The crispy duck pancake starter was very good as well. I had the seafood paella which is pictured below. When I added some salt it was very nice.”

  “Sole & Duck is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, and I have to say the staff were warm, welcoming and genuinely friendly throughout the evening. Unfortunately, as a vegetarian, the food was a real let-down. My friend ordered from the prix fixe menu, but there wasn’t a single vegetarian option available. I asked whether they could include the vegetarian main on the set menu, but this was refused. I then ordered the Spiced roasted courgettes (£25), which the menu described as including tempura courgette flower, whipped feta and potato salad. When the dish arrived, it was essentially a few slices of courgette with one courgette flower on a smear of whipped feta. The potato salad, which was listed as part of the dish, was completely missing. I had to ask where it was, and it was brought out separately afterwards. When the staff asked if I was happy with my meal, I explained that I didn’t expect to pay £25 for what had been served. Their response was that they “don’t really get many customers asking for vegetarian food.” While I appreciated their honesty and they kindly offered me a complimentary dessert, I found that comment disappointing. Vegetarian diners deserve the same care, creativity and value as everyone else. The excellent service prevented the experience from being worse, but the food itself felt poor value for money. It left me feeling as though vegetarian options were an afterthought rather than something the restaurant genuinely wanted to cater for. I hope they reconsider both the quality and value of their vegetarian offering, because the setting and hospitality deserve better.”

  “We celebrated a birthday here and it was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious, the interior is beautiful, and the whole place has a really nice atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and so supportive, they really made us feel special and took great care of us throughout. Honestly, some of the best service we’ve had in Cambridge. Definitely one of my favourite places!”

  “the food selection was amazing and the quality was delicious! portion sizes are perfect. the staff were very friendly and professional, 10/10 food and service. had the best sake i’ve ever had here, i need to find out what it’s called so i can get a bottle myself! they brought my partner a special ice cream for his birthday with a chocolate ‘happy birthday’ message on the plate which was a lovely touch.”

  “One of the most delicious lamb & beef Sunday Roast! Sticky toffee pudding was also tasty, the texture mix of soft, spongy and crunchy bits, cold and hot mixing greatly in mouth. The slow cooked lamb was super tender and flavourful (unique and outstanding comparing to most other pubs).”

  “Duck and Sole – Early Mother’s Day Celebration We had a fantastic experience at Duck and Sole to celebrate an early Mother’s Day! The evening started with delicious bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar — a perfect beginning. Our daughter enjoyed a juicy burger, I had the steak, and my husband chose the seafood dish. Both mains were expertly cooked and full of flavor — truly impressive. To end on a sweet note, we shared a lovely panna cotta and a rich crème caramel for dessert — both absolutely amazing! Service was great, the ambiance was cozy, and the food was top-notch. We would definitely go again!”
