About Golpo Bengal Cafe & Restaurant
Golpo Bengal Cafe & Restaurant is a Bangladeshi restaurant at 36-38 Hills Rd in Cambridge, opened by two friends who already owned other Indian restaurants in the city. The idea took shape over chai on a short trip to Bangladesh. The Fisherman Kadhai Tiger Prawn Poori starter comes with poori-style bread. Kosha Mangsho, a slow-cooked mutton curry, is served with garlic butter naan. For dessert, the Floating Malai Tiramisu takes its inspiration from rasmalai. Non-alcoholic cocktails sit alongside the other drinks. Large groups can book ahead, and the restaurant also takes walk-ins. The team explains the dishes and gives recommendations.

Customer Review Summary
Tiger prawns are the dish reviewers raise most, called delicious and full of flavour, with one diner describing the Fisherman Kadhai Tiger Prawn Poori as incredibly moreish and served with buttery, flaky bread. Close behind are the desserts, especially the Floating Malai Tiramisu, inspired by rasmalai, and a brûlée, along with the non alcoholic cocktails and a lemon ginger tea. Others single out the Kosha Mangsho mutton curry with soft garlic butter naan, the aubergine and Tenga Maach, described as flavorful with a nice tang, and the Dal Vada Chaat and Pani Puri. Servers are called friendly and knowledgeable, and several mention helpful recommendations. The one sharply negative review comes from a birthday table of five whose main was inedible, with popadoms replaced by only mango chutney and no alcohol on offer. Milder notes include a mango lassi with too much ice and a mutton curry that could have used more heat, since no one asked about spice level. One group of seven arrived without a reservation and was still given a table.

“I had a lovely experience at Golpo Bengal Cafe and Restaurant! The food was delicious, fresh and full of flavour. Everything was really nice, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. A special mention to the girl who served us, as she was so friendly, polite and welcoming. Her customer service was amazing, and she made sure we were well looked after throughout our visit. She really made our experience extra special. Would definitely recommend this place and look forward to visiting again! 😊❤️”

“I’m not one to leave a bad review, but this food was the worse curry I’ve had to date. Me and 4 others came for a birthday meal. The popadoms were not popadoms, only mango chutney offered. The starters were okay. The main I had was inedible, tasted like a dishwasher tablet. The whole table agreed. £50PP it turned out to be no alcohol!”

“The host is so friendly, service is attentive and the food tastes amazing. I really enjoyed the lemon ginger tea. The aroma stays on your lips, fresh and energising. We get good luck every time we come here! Visitors loved our artwork and gave us a bouquet of flowers! I’m over the moon. The setting here is absolutely perfect.”
