Customer Review Summary

Beef Wellington is the dish reviewers raise most, described as perfectly cooked with a rich gravy underneath, and one diner who went hunting for a great Wellington called it the highlight of the visit. Scallops come close behind, called fresh, juicy and very tasty, though one reviewer found them a little salty beside the mellow pea puree. A lobster ceviche on the Valentines menu, chocolate fondant, creme brûlée and a poached pear with coconut ice cream also draw praise, and one reviewer pairs the Wellington with a Bordeaux and notes an extensive dessert wine list. Service is repeatedly called friendly, welcoming and attentive, with a waiter well informed about the menu. Criticism is milder. One diner found the swordfish and starters good but not on the Wellington's level and wished for more finesse. Another found the garden room cramped and dark and the mocktails very sweet, and one said booking had been difficult. A birthday lunch ended with a panna cotta topped with a small flaming candle in a raspberry and a chorus of Happy Birthday.

“Impeccable service from start to finish. Our waiter was polite, attentive and well informed about dishes on the menu. The kitchen presents standard British fair - which I am not generally a fan of - in a delicious, elegant and fresh format. Though the garden room is a bit cramped and dark, we had a good time. Take care with the mocktails, they are very sweet!”

“had my 80 th birthday lunch here with family today. we chose from the best menu and started with the celeriac soup. All freshly made hot and creamy and just right on a cold wet day. I followed with the linguini which oozed pesto walnuts and great seasonings and followed with thr Pan cotta which was served by mine host with a small flaming cake candle placed in a raspberry in the coil is. I loved this great touch which was accompanied with a chorus of Happy birthday . My daughter loved the fish cakes and son in law demolished the chicken choice. They share a portion of chocolate mousse between them an my daughter and I shared a bottle of New Zealand crisp white wine. . we also went to see the secret garden which can be adapted to suit all weathers . it is delightful. all in all our time at the oak was totally memorable for the great food and excellent service. we will definitely go again.”

“Excellent food and service. Scallops were the standout: very tasty with good accompaniment sauces. Beef wellington was good, with a rich gravy underneath. Chocolate fondant and creme brûlée were superb, rich flavours and excellent presentation. Perfect venue in the garden section, from first date to big party. Constantinos was an attentive waiter and extremely polite.”

“For me, the ideal mix of food quality, affordability, and ambiance. I had the beef welly and a Bordeaux that paired wonderfully. They also have an extensive dessert wine list.”
