About Garden House

Garden House is a restaurant and bar on Granta Place in Cambridge, set by the river where punt boats and rowing craft pass along the water. The kitchen runs through breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, and its afternoon tea includes a roast beef option alongside the sweeter spread. A wine list sits behind the bar, with recommendations offered to diners choosing a glass. The room extends outside to the riverside, where waterside tables catch the passing boats and make a calmer spot to sit in warmer months. A private dining room at the back of the house takes group bookings, and dogs are welcome inside and out. Service runs through the day, and tables along the rail fill quickly at lunch and on summer afternoons, so booking ahead holds the better seats.

Customer Review Summary

Across reviews, the standout draw is the riverside setting, with several diners sitting by the river and calling it lovely and relaxing. Close behind, service earns frequent praise, and reviewers also single out generous portions, good wine choices, and afternoon tea. A few note the portions run on the smaller side, and one suggests booking ahead for a river table.

“Super location by the river in the centre of Cambridge for a special occasion lunch. The food portions were generous and our waitress looked after us really well. We would recommend and will return. Thank you!”
  • Ben
“A perfect place to spend a summer evening. We sat by the river watching the boats go by, which made for such a lovely and relaxing setting. Despite the venue being busy, it was still quiet enough to have a proper conversation and enjoy the atmosphere. The food was really nice. The portions are on the smaller side, but we found them enough, and there was also a lovely selection of wines to choose from. It’s clearly a popular place, so I’d definitely recommend booking in advance, particularly if you want to sit outside by the river. Highly recommended for a relaxed summer evening with good food, wine and a beautiful riverside setting.”
  • San
“We had excellent service and a delicious afternoon tea. My daughter had the roast beef and it was plentiful, tender and everything was cooked to perfection.”
  • Zorè
“Shrishti was serving us & she was excellent. She was really cared for customer services excellence. She alone made a difference. We previously decided never to come here but today we changed our mind & will visit again.”
  • Giorgos Theodoulou
“Very elegant and well managed restaurant.”
