About North Star Restaurant
North Star Restaurant is a steak and seafood restaurant at 37 Trumpington St in Cambridge, built around Argentine steaks aged for 50 days. The steaks come as ribeye, fillet or sirloin, served with fries or chips. The seafood side starts with mussels steamed in a cream and white wine sauce, and half lobster is also on the menu for those who want shellfish as a main. Dessert includes sticky toffee pudding and crème brûlée, and the bar mixes cocktails such as a mojito and an Old Fashioned. Dogs are welcome, so diners can bring a four-legged companion along.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is what reviewers return to most, with the ribeye, fillet and sirloin described as cooked perfectly, juicy and tender, and the creamed spinach and Dauphinoise potatoes praised alongside. Seafood sits close behind: mussels, oysters, scallops and half a lobster get warm mentions, and fries and chilli broccoli come up as well. Diners also name the Old Fashioned and mojito, a sticky toffee pudding and a creme brulee, plus a Sunday roast with tender beef and standout gravy. Service is described as friendly and attentive, and a few mention free desserts for an anniversary, a birthday surprise, and a welcome for a dog. The main complaint is one detailed negative: a diner paid for half a lobster that arrived with no claw meat, found the fries soft and cold, and was never given a drinks menu. Another found a slightly strange taste to the steak and the service a bit meh, and a couple call it a little pricey. One couple was seated at the same table as a year earlier, just for memories.

“Lovely spot, the steak is the best I have had in a very long time, and the creamed spinach. Staff are great and attentive. I would highly recommend this place”

“Really enjoyed our Sunday roast! Everything tasted so fresh and full of flavour. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the beef was lovely and tender, not dry at all. And the gravy was honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. You can tell they use quality ingredients and take pride in their food. Would definitely recommend!”

“It was a nice restaurant in Cambridge. I’d have given 5 stars for the food if not for a slight strange taste with the steak (however, with the price, this could be forgiven). The steak was however cooked perfectly to medium rare as requested. Fries were amazing. Broccolini was cooked to my liking. Prawns were yum. Service was a bit meh, but I was famished so that could be forgiven as well.”

“Review North star Restaurant Dining Club Meal Friday 11 September 2026 The Father and Daughter were the hosts this time, as my sister and myself arrived first at the restaurant just before our hosts did, when we all arrived, a waiter showed us to our table, and we all sat down, and a little time later our waitress for the evening Ha, gave us our drinks menus, and put down two jugs of tap water for us to drink, before we ordered our drinks. After a short while we ordered our drinks, my sister and I two pints of IPA lager, and the Father and Daughter ordered, a pint of IPA, and a Diet Coke, and a glass of wine. For our Starters, my sister ordered Steamed Fresh Mussels, in a Cream and White Wine Sauce, I had Crispy Chilli Prawns, the Daughter had Salt and Pepper Squid with Lemon and Garlic Aioli, and the Father had Father had Jumbo Seared Scallops and Parsley Butter and Fries. For our Mains, my sister and Myself had Fish and Chips which was Haddock in Batter, with Mushy Peas and Tartar Sauce, the Father had Fillet Steak with Chips Pancetta Lardons and Petit Pois, and the Daughter had Sirloin Steak with Sweet Potato Fries. For the Dessert, my sister, myself and the Father, had Sticky Toffee Pudding, and the Daughter decided to pass on Dessert.”

“Lobster scam! The lobster won't have the claw! I asked the waitress and she said that claw meat was taken out and put in the half - lie, the was no claw meat at all! It's the best part of the lobster and I paid £30 for it and didn't get it. Even fries weren't good - soft and cold. The waitress (long fake nails) had way too much attitude and wasn't nice. We weren't given drinks menu at all. When I said I would like tea she didn't tell what tea they have. There was no paper in the loo. All these little details ruin the atmosphere. I had lobster in this place when it was Loch Fine and it was great - not a shadow of that greatness is left in the North Star. Huge birthday disappointment!”
