About The Olive Grove

The Olive Grove is a Greek restaurant and deli at 100 Regent St in Cambridge, serving a modern take on Greek and Mediterranean cooking. The slow cooked lamb shank is a main course on the menu, and fresh mint tea is available as a drink, with the sugar left out if you ask. Starters are written for sharing, and a platter of little Greek delights puts several small plates on one table. Salads include a Greek salad and an orange and fennel salad, and pitta bread comes with meals. There is no dessert menu, so diners ask the staff what is available, which includes baklava and other traditional Greek pastries.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the generous portions of Greek starters, with the calamari, chopped sausage and red pepper hummus praised for softness and flavour, and the halloumi sticks, kofte, moussaka and baklava described as delicious. Close behind, several call the staff friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, and a few mention fresh mint tea, pitta bread and traditional Greek pastries available on request. Reviewers also describe reasonable prices and a relaxed atmosphere, though a few wish the tables were spaced further apart. The caveats are specific. One reviewer found the sausage and lamb kofte too salty, with a lot of olives in the Greek salad. Another waited ten minutes without menus or drinks and called an orange and fennel salad small and light on chicken, served in a cereal-type bowl. Another reported slow service, frozen chips and no condiments. Bread arrived only after one table had finished eating, and the waiter offered a free tonic water in response to the complaint.

“Popped in on the off chance they had a table at about 6pm and they did. Warmly greeted and shown to a table. We decided to share the platter of little greek delights, an orange and fennel salad and a greek salad. Everything was lovely and fresh. We received our food quickly but were never rushed. Lovely, relaxed but luxe vibe after a busy day in Cambridge and also on the walk back to the train station. Will definitely go back!”

“Very slow service, underwhelming food, no condiments. Frozen chips as a side dish. Largely uneaten meals. Most diners left waiting for their meals. I was asked on paying with the meals if they were satisfactory. I pointed out not at all. Waiter offered no explanation, refund or apology.”

“It was our first time here in Cambridge and we have no fixed idea on where to eat for our late lunch. So man recommendations on the internet but can't decide quick. Then, we passed by The Olive Grove and we've decided to try it. I must say, everything was so tasty! From starters to mains to desserts, they did not disappoint!! Approved by my Greek partner's taste! Flavours are authentice. Staff-wise, they were lovely as well! We were served and assisted by Vaso on our first day and the next day, we came back, Rai and other colleagues were lovely as well!! Will definitely come back and recommend!”

“Had a great lunch with a couple of old friends. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was very good and tasty and the wine excellent. It was busy but not overwhelming and with a nice atmosphere. The bill reasonable and good value overall. Would definitely recommend and we will be back!”

“I visited the Olive Grove for my teams late Christmas lunch. The man who greeted us took our drink orders promptly and I was struck by the nice decor and pleasant atmosphere. When he brought our different dishes out, I was blown away by the size of the three starters, I ordered for lunch. Massive and extremely generous portions. The softness and quality of the calamari is one of the best I have ever eaten even better that cooked in the Mediterranean, which the UK isn't too renowned for doing as authentic as the Med! The chopped sausage was perfect wz tiny tomatoes and herbs and the red pepper hummus was so smooth and flavoursome oozing in olive oil. It is a shame that I live in London, otherwise this would be here every week and invite my friends and family! An impressive culinary experience with amazing flavours, huge portions, a friendly waiter and a nice Mediterranean. Outstanding!”
