About Little Petra

Little Petra is a family-run Jordanian restaurant at 60 Hills Rd in Cambridge, where a local artist has hand-painted scenes of Petra on the walls. Yaseen Hlelat, who was born in Wadi Musa, hosts the room. The menu combines Jordanian and Lebanese-style dishes, with mezze-style small plates that include falafel. Mixed BBQ and koftas make up the grills, and the chicken kofta, Dejaj Kofta, comes with a spicy salsa. Kenafeh is on the dessert list. A private dining space is set aside for parties and groups, and tables can be reserved through the booking tool on the restaurant's website.

Customer Review Summary

Falafel is the most repeated draw, described as light yet filling by one diner and crispy outside and soft inside by another. Close behind are the koftas, including a spicy chicken version one reviewer warns about, and the mango drinks, with a mango crush and a large mango juice both singled out. Others praise the fatteh with lamb, aubergine and crispy bread, the mixed BBQ, the lamb shank and the fattoush salad, plus warm kenafeh for dessert. Reviewers call the portions generous, and one suggests ordering many small plates mezze style, noting the many vegan options. Complaints are minor but specific. One diner found the prices on the pricier side, another says the music may be too loud for some, and a third found the basbousa extremely sweet. The ful was more liquidy than another reviewer was used to, though its lemon flavor impressed. One reviewer advises booking in advance because the place gets busy. A family that had a wedding meal delivered describes plenty of leftovers afterward.

“Spectacular place you should totally go to (Book in advance to secure a spot as it gets busy) Totally recommend the Fattoush Salad, Lamb Shank and Chai. The flavours are amazing and service is fantastic! Enjoy!”

“The perfect restaurant to enjoy some traditional Lebanese food! Every dish packed with flavour, drinks amazing, atmosphere always fantastic with some great middle eastern music constantly on the speakers but it might be a bit too loud for some. This is our safe spot to take anyone that is visiting Cambridge and we can ensure they will leave satisfied, stuffed (as the portions are generous to say the least), and with a smile. Many vegan options as well which is always a positive. I recommend going for many different small plates especially if you are vegan (mezze style).”

“Finally visited the most recommended Jordanian restaurant in Cambridge, and it definitely lived up to the hype! We ordered the marinated chicken served with rice topped with nuts and pomegranate, along with the Dejaj Kofta with a spicy salsa. Both main dishes were absolutely delicious full of flavour, perfectly seasoned, and easily a 10/10! For drinks, we tried the mango crush and iced tea, both of which were refreshing and complemented the meal nicely. We also had the Basbousa for dessert. It was good, but extremely sweet for my taste. Overall, the main dishes were outstanding, and I would totally recommend this place if you’re looking for delicious Jordanian food in Cambridge! ❤️”

“This was my first time experiencing Jordanian food. There were many intriguing items on the menu, but I asked for a recommendation because I am only in Cambridge for a short while and may not get another chance to eat here. I think the dish is called fatteh. It was delicious, beautiful, and had such an interesting blend of flavors and textures. I can't see how they managed to put all these ingredients together for only £21.50, without even considering the skill required. The savory lamb, aubergine, and crispy bread were cooked prior to assembling the dish, so it seems to be very labour intensive too. Even if I could find a recipe and the time to make this at home, I would spend at least £40 on the ingredients... pomegranate, toasted pine nuts, cashews, almonds - and that's just the top! I enjoyed this meal so much that I tried to get the owner to move to Hawaii so I can have this food again.”

“Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. We had all the mezzes and then a couple of koftas. All delicious though watch out for the chicken one, it's spicy! Jordan Chardonnay was also worth ordering.”
