Quick info
About The Cambridge Chop House
The Cambridge Chop House is a steak restaurant in Cambridge, founded in 2007 at 1 King's Parade, with tables and windows that look across to King's College Chapel. The dining rooms sit downstairs below street level, so a frontage that looks small from the street opens into more space inside. The menu centres on steaks and chops, with ribeye steak among the cuts and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Real ales and craft beer sit alongside the wine list, and the cask ale is served at room temperature. Sunday lunch brings roasts, including a Trio of beef, pork and chicken. A set lunch menu also runs into the early evening, which suits a meal before a show at the nearby Cambridge Arts Theatre. Reservations are required.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the steak, with the ribeye named repeatedly and the steaks described as tender and cooked as asked. Close behind is the Sunday roast, where one reviewer chose the beef roast and another the beef, pork and chicken trio. The sticky toffee pudding is praised for its generous sauce, and others mention the haggis balls, a juicy burger and garlic broccoli. Window tables with views of King's College and Trinity College come up often, along with a downstairs of quiet, cellar-like rooms that reviewers call cozy and historic. Service is described as friendly, polite and attentive, and one birthday table received a complimentary ice cream with a candle. The main complaint is cost. One reviewer found prices high with an added service charge and a charge for bottled water, and a bill for two steaks, a kids' meal and the cheapest bottle of red wine still felt poor value. Another felt the steak could be better for the price, and a third found the cask ale too light and diluted.

“A lovely traditional spot in the heart of Cambridge, with a charming atmosphere and tables overlooking the historic King’s College. We came to try the traditional Sunday Roast, choosing both the Beef Roast and the Trio with beef, pork and chicken. Everything was very tasty, although I would recommend the Beef Roast, as the meat pairs particularly well with the traditional accompaniments. The lower floor has a lovely traditional pub style atmosphere, perfect for a more relaxed drink. We also tried the traditional cask ale served at room temperature, an interesting British experience, although a little too light and diluted for my taste. Overall, a great place to experience a traditional British Sunday Roast with a beautiful Cambridge setting. 🇬🇧🥩🍺”

“We were lucky to get a window table and had a good view of Trinity College. The steaks were executed perfectly and accompanying sauces were good too. Very attentive and polite service.”

“We had a table indoors with a nice view of the College opposite and service was friendly and efficient. They had a nice weekday lunch menu as well as a good selection of dishes on the main menu. Everything we ordered was nicely executed, though the steak could be better for the price.”

“Beautiful place situated in a very busy and easy to access road. At the begging looks like is small but, they have plenty of space downstairs. Magic, quiet and beautiful atmosphere. The food is amazing. If you are vegetarian or vegan don’t go there trying to find all the food for you, because clearly is a place where you will enjoy delicious meat. The 3 courses for £30 were absolutely perfect. Great portion and the flavour I will not have enough words to describe it. The staff upstairs is okay. But the people downstairs were absolutely wonderful. We did not have a booking but we were able to find a place. If you are having a trip or a romantic date. Yes you must go there. Even when upstairs is awesome downstairs is beautiful. (I prefer places with not a lot noise) Great experience.”

“We stopped by this place while visiting Cambridge, and I had one of the juiciest and most delicious burgers I’ve ever had. Everything tasted fresh, especially the salad, and you could tell the ingredients were high quality. The person who served us had a great sense of humor and made our visit even more enjoyable. Friendly service like that really makes a difference. I highly recommend this place if you’re visiting Cambridge. And if you’re a local, I’m sure you’ve already discovered this gem!”
