Customer Review Summary
Pies are the draw at Hobbson's, with reviewers singling out the steak and kidney pie, the beef and kidney pie with its bone marrow gravy, and the chicken pie, all described as delicious with plenty of filling and creamy mashed potato. Close behind are the desserts, namely the apple crumble and a cheesecake finished with a fresh raspberry, while one diner calls the scotch egg especially good and another praises the cabbage. Many mention the decor, the music and friendly service, and one describes a missing side of red cabbage that arrived anyway, uncharged. The caveats are mixed. One reviewer waited a long time for food, found the mash chalky and lumpy and the vegetables unseasoned, and thought the price too high for the pies. Another found the vegetables too salty and the prices higher, though still fair for the quality, and one felt a junior server knew little about the dishes. Several praise the portions, and one closes on the apple crumble they could have eaten twice over.

“Pies are delicious and have really high quality. Steak and kidney pie has really good taste to it. Mashed potatoes are also creamy and tasty. Portions are large and pies have a lot of filling. Yeah, prices are higher but you get high quality and tasty food, in other words price to quality ratio is good. Only downside is that the veggies were a little too salty.”

“Easily one of the best restaurants in Cambridge. The selection of pies is unreal and all the ones I have tried were very tasty. They have many other unique options in their menu. Space is very nicely decorated and staff very polite. Top place!”

“Service was nice and friendly. We waited over an hour for food, but didn’t say anything as the restaurant looked busy. The pie was alright - had the beef and port pie. Mash was dreadful (chalky and lumpy with no seasoning). Veggies on the side were sad snd basic, no seasoning or anything special, just cooked through. Sadly, we found a hair in our food at the end of the meal. The manager apologised and to our surprise we only had 10% off taken off that dish in the bill (amounting to just over £1). Would have expected something a little more significant, but didn’t say anything and just left. I wouldn’t waste your time, there are a lot more nicer places for pies and CHEAPER.”

“I highly recommend the beef and kidney pie. The rich, bone marrow gravy pairs beautifully with the buttery mashed potatoes. The service was very warm, and the restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. I loved the music too.”

“Had a wonderful meal at this Trinity Street spot. The food was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. Everything we tried was excellent, but the cheesecake was a real highlight for me. It was perfectly finished with a single, fresh raspberry on the side. I cannot wait to come back.”
