About The Wildmoor Oak
The Wildmoor Oak is a gastropub on Top Rd in Bromsgrove, run by new owners with a refurbished interior. The roast dinner is served on more than one day of the week, with beef as the main, and a gluten-free and dairy-free menu runs alongside the regular one for guests with those dietary needs. Fish and chips is made with haddock and comes with house-made tartare sauce and curry sauce. The bar pours draft beers and a cocktail selection, and dogs are welcome. Bookings are taken. The pub has a sister site, and diners celebrating a birthday are given a card.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come for the Sunday roast, with the beef singled out. One diner was glad the specials menu offered a beef and pork duo, and another managed to get a roast on a Monday. Fish and chips is close behind, praised for generous haddock, light crisp batter, chunky chips and a house-made tartare sauce, with the curry sauce also getting a mention. Others name the pork belly with its sticky maple sauce, chicken on champ mash, crème brûlée and baked chilli corn. Staff are described as friendly and welcoming, and the garden and outside area draw praise. The main criticism comes from one family visit. Two servers covering many tables meant long waits for some items and orders forgotten more than once. The family was asked nearly five times about more drinks, and two of them found the bacon on the burgers too thick and overcooked. They still said they would return. Two reviewers mention being handed a birthday card by the team, and one group arriving a few minutes late for a booking after lunch service had finished was seated without being rushed.

“OUR NEW FAVE! Can’t believe we have lived 15 minutes away for 4 years and not know about this place. Food is lovely, staff are friendly & the pub itself is wonderful.”

“Great hearty food, a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic service to boot. I left feeling properly fed and genuinely looked after, almost as if I’d been cooked for by a loved one. I even managed to get a Sunday roast on a Monday, which definitely makes the hardest day of the week a little more bearable 👌🏻 I’ll be back to sample the new Autumn 🍂🍁 menu very soon. Can’t wait!”

“Great food, lovely outside area, a birthday card which was a lovely touch. Best gastropub food I’ve had in ages (or ever?!) Friendly service, we were a few minutes late for our booking so we’re actually after lunch service finished but they were more than happy to accommodate us and didn’t make us feel at all rushed. Will definitely be back again.”

“From the moment 1 arrived, the whole experience felt incredibly welcoming. Jess and Millie were both lovely — friendly, attentive and clearly well-informed about both the food and drinks menu. Exactly what you want in your servers. Nothing felt like too much trouble, including when we asked for extra curry sauce and tartare sauce, which they were more than happy to provide. The building itself is beautiful, with a really warm and inviting aesthetic. The garden is particularly gorgeous, and after seeing it, I’m already planning a return visit specifically to sit outside and enjoy some food in the outdoor space. Even the toilets were spotless, which is always a nice little indicator that a place cares about the details. The drinks offering is strong too. There’s a really good variety of beers on draft, all tasting fresh and refreshing. I went for an IPA and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. If beer isn’t your thing, there’s also a cocktail selection, so there’s plenty to choose from. The Food I went for the fish and chips, which I was told is one of the best-reviewed dishes on the menu and something of a staple here. After trying it, I can absolutely see why. The haddock was sensational — incredibly fresh, beautifully cooked and a really generous portion. The batter was light, crisp and properly crunchy without feeling heavy or greasy. The chips were fantastic too: hot, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside and exactly what you want alongside a piece of fish like this. I’d also been told the curry sauce was worth trying, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Rich, comforting and full of flavour, it worked brilliantly with both the fish and chips. Though the tartare sauce deserves its own mention. Not just blitzed mush. Clearly made in-house, and honestly, outrageously good. One of those little additions that makes you realise how much of a difference homemade sauces can make to an otherwise familiar dish. The only part of the plate that I thought could be pushed a little further was the mushy peas. Don’t get me wrong — they were still delicious, and I’d happily give them a 9/10. But when the rest of the plate is operating at such a high level, the peas are the one component where I felt there was still room to elevate things. Before the main course arrived, I also tried the baked chilli corn, and that was unreal. It’s a great option if you’re after something to nibble on before your meal without necessarily wanting a full starter. Really flavourful and a great little pre-meal bite. Overall This was a seriously good meal. Fresh fish, fantastic chips, brilliant sauces, generous portions and a couple of really memorable extras. Add in the welcoming service, beautiful surroundings and strong drinks selection, and you’ve got somewhere I’d genuinely be happy to return to. The fish and chips alone are worth coming back for — but next time, I’m taking advantage of that garden. Food: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Aesthetic: ⭐ 9.5/10 Overall Score: 9.7/10 A bloody good plate of fish and chips in a beautiful setting, with genuinely lovely service. Would absolutely return.”

“Went there on recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed. Staff friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived. Made us all feel very welcome. Service was excellent, food menu was perfect not too many dishes that blind you with a zillion choices. I’d like to see more of this in other places. So well done Wildmoor on this! The food was absolutely outstanding. Fresh, hot and full of flavour. I’m very happy we found this local gastro to go for a meal and a drink. I’d highly recommend it. We will be back.”
